- Title: Atlantis – The Price of Hope

With the help of his friend Daedalus (Robert Lindsay), Pythagoras (Robert Emms) finds a cure for Medusa (Jemima Rooper) but is reluctant to tell his friends as it would require Hercules (Mark Addy) to sacrifice his own life for the woman he loves. Cure or no cure, when Hercules sets out to find Medusa on his own, Pythagoras and Jason (Jack Donnelly) go after him only to be captured by Scythians and reunited with Hercules as potential prey for the barbarians who plan to hunt the threesome through the Forest of Calydon.
Along with showing us how far Hercules is willing to go to save the woman he loves, “The Price of Hope” also introduces Nora-Jane Noone as the character of Atalanta who saves Jason’s life and is destined to cross his path again somewhere down the line. The series’ continued themes of showing how Jason is different from other men continues as he dispatches several of the hunters with ease, survives the mortal wounds long enough to be treated by Atalanta, and is able to gaze upon Medusa without being turned to stone.
I’m intrigued by Noone’s addition to the cast and what role such a fearsome fighter Atalanta might play going forward. A friend here, might she be a potential enemy down the line or be used as a possible second love interest for Jason? Despite the series’ constantly undercutting of Hercules as far from heroic, the man proves shows his true colors here with what he is willing to give up to save the love of his life (even if she refuses to let him), but he also still gets to play a bit of the fool while explaining how he was captured and later during his misadventures with a crow while hiding from the Scythians.
