As Thea (Willa Holland) begins her 500 hours of community service in Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) law firm, Oliver (Stephen Amell) confronts his mother with the list of names Walter (Colin Salmon) was snooping into before his disappearance. Although he’s less than thrilled with Moria’s (Susanna Thompson) explanation of the list, Oliver continues to argue with Diggle (David Ramsey) that his mother is not mixed up in the the list or the lies that killed his father. Green Arrow also has his hands full with the release of sociopath Cyrus Vance (David Anders) from prison who plans to take over all of organized crime in Starling City by taking down the city’s masked vigilante.
Making good use of the bug he planted on the phone Laurel uses to talk to Green Arrow, Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne) organizes a sting to take down the vigilante. Not only does the vigilante get away, Laurel is extremely upset to see how her father used her, further straining their relationship, and the entire incident gives Vance an idea on how to attack Green Arrow. When Vance and his goons kidnap Laurel to lure the archer into the open the archer and the young woman’s cop father will have to put aside their differences and work together to save her.
Flashbacks on the island include Oliver convincing Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett) not to kill him as the pair agree to work together to escape the island. Diggle begins filling in as Moira’s driver which leads him to uncover her relationship with the elder Merlyn (John Barrowman) and the fact that the boat which sank and stranded Oliver on a deserting island for five years was sabotaged. After saving Laurel this means Green Arrow’s next piece of business is to have another talk with his mother.
