AEW Rampage – 10/4/24

AEW Rampage - 10/4/24

The October 4th edition of AEW Rampage featured a trios match between the Elite and Private Party with Katsuyori Shibata, the Conglomeration vs. the Learning Tree, Queen Aminata vs. Harley Cameron, and appearances by Kamille, Anna Jay, and Dr. Britt Baker with the Women’s Division dominating the middle-third of the show.

Highlights:

  • The night kicked off with a fun trios match featuring Private Party with Katsuyori Shibata defeating Jack Perry and the Young Bucks with Marq Quen pinning Matthew Jackson in a callback to Private Party’s upset victory of the Young Bucks from 2019. Solid stuff all around leading to Private Party getting included in a match on Collision to determine a new #1 contender for the Tag Team Titles.
  • A backstage interview between Kris Statlandner and Renee Paquette was interrupted by Kamille claiming she is the biggest, the toughest, and the strongest member of the AEW Women’s Division quickly followed by Kamille, with Mercedes Moné at ringside, defeated jobber Zoey Lynn in a squash match. Fine squash, but the confrontation between Statlander is the bigger news.
  • Renee interviewed the returning Anna Jay about her time in Stardom, her improvement in the ring (namedropping Will Ospreay as someone who noted her improvement), and looking for new challenges. Anna feels a bit more comfortable on the mic without needing to threaten to choke a bitch out. It will be interesting to see where she goes from here.
  • After a backstage interview with Renee earlier in the night, Harley Cameron took on Queen Aminata. Aminata got the win, but was immediately attacked after the match by Serena Deeb leading to local girl Britt Baker coming out to make the save with the post-match segment furthering the animosity between Deeb and both Baker and Aminata.

  • We got a pre-taped vignette featuring Deonna Purrazzo and Taya Valkyrie that seems to suggest the start of a new stable for Purrazzo.
  • In the main event, Orange Cassidy and Kyle O’Reilly defeated Big Bill and Bryan Keith despite the attempted interference from Chris Jericho (who came out for commentary for the match). As expected, this matched offered both some wackiness (including Orange and O’Reilly screwing with Bill early on) as well as some fast-paced action. I like both of these pairings for the tag team division while the match also furthered the Conglomeration’s feud with the Learning Tree.
