AEW Dynamite - 5/15/2024

The May 15th edition of AEW Dynamite include Blackpool Combat Club against the Don Callis Family in tag-team action, Swerve Strickland vs. Bryan Cage, Kazuchika Okada vs. Dax Harwood, and the Young Bucks vs. Matt Sydal and Christopher Daniels.

Highlights:

  • Following their confrontation with Christopher Daniels last week, the Young Bucks took on the team of Daniels and Matt Sydal with Jack Perry on commentary. No surprises here with the Bucks picking up the win. After the match, we got the firing Daniels and having security escort him out of the building. The power-mad Bucks storyline continues.
  • Adam Copeland came out for a promotional segment only to be jumped by the House of Black. Copeland ended up getting the wrong end of the House’s version of a ConChairTo. Kyle O’Reilly attempted to make a save only to get beat down as well. Later in the night Malakai Black cut a promo accepting the match for Double or Nothing under the condition that when, not if, Copeland loses he bends the knee to the House.
  • Promo segment writing Eddie Kingston’s injury into the story with The Elite. This was followed by a backstage interview with a smug Elite already claiming victory for their upcoming match at Double or Nothing. After the commercial break, FTR rebuffed The Elite in an backstage interview with Renee Paquette stating they had already found a new partner for their match at the PPV.
  • Promo segment highlighting Swerve Stirckland as AEW Champion and his feud with Christian Cage and his former friends in the Mogul Embassy. This was followed by a backstage promo later in the night by Strickland before heading out for his match against Brian Cage. For their match, Swerve came out like a house on fire with Cage taking control heading into the commercial break with a number of big power spots before Swerve took over control again for the win in front of the hometown crowd. Swerve was jumped after the match by Nick Wayne and Killswitch (with Wayne recreating the scene of a family portrait turned into a bloody weapon from Swerve’s attack on Wayne) followed by a promo from Christian.
  • Hook returned and took little time to wipe the mat with a jobber cutting a promo afterwards calling out Chris Jericho for a match tonight. Jericho and Big Bill hit the ring for a “teaching moment.” Taz had some fun commentary for this segment and we also got an appearance by Katsuyori Shibata running out to make the save. This was followed up later in a backstage segment featuring Hook, Shibata, and Samoa Joe possibly suggesting a new direction for all three man after Hook’s match at Double or Nothing.
  • Renee interviewed Toni Storm in a backstage segment setting up both her match later that night with Harley Cameron (where her friends will be banned from ringside) and her match at Double or Nothing against Serena Deeb. In their match later in the night, Storm took quick control but did get distracted by Deeb showing up on the ramp allowing Cameron to get in some offense before Storm got the win with the Storm Zero.
  • Backstage interview with between Will Ospreay and Roderick Strong and the Undisputed Kingdom playing on Ospreay and Strong’s history and mutual disdain for each other heading into their title match at Double or Nothing.
  • We got the contract signing between Willow Nightingale and Mercedes Moné with Renee on hand to kick off the segment which featured a heated promo from Willow with Mercedes leaning into more of a heel persona in her rebuttal before Willow put Mercedes through a table.
