The March 29th edition of AEW Dynamite featured the return of Adam Cole taking on Daniel Garcia, Jungle Boy versus Matt Hardy, appearances by Hangman, MJF, Bryan Danielson, the Ass Boys, and Dalton Castle, plus Kenny Omega defending the IWGP US Title against Jeff Cobb.
Highlights:
- Nine months after his last match, Adam Cole returned to action against Daniel Garcia in the main event. In typical AEW fashion, the match played on Garcia targeting Page’s head and neck over the course of the match including a series of piledrivers to Cole, before Cole ended the match with the Panama Sunrise and lowered the Boom. Nice post-match moment with Britt Baker in the ring as well working to lead into AEW All Access, and we did get an appearance by Chris Jericho suggesting this will be Cole’s first feud back.
- In the opening match of the night Jungle Boy defeated Matt Hardy. Cameras backstage caught Darby Alin and Sammy Guevara (with Tay Melo) watching the action. Tired of seeing Ethan Page‘s interference, Hook hit the ring allowing Jungle Boy to pin Hardy. Match was immediately followed by MJF hitting the ring offering a promo to put over Jungle Boy’s talent while attacking his decision making over the past 3 years leading to a brawl in the ring. Nice way to continue to build on the four pillars segment from last week.
- Backstage interview with Don Dallis and Kenny Omega. Followed up later with a recap package also setting up Omega’s match tonight against Jeff Cobb and Callis apologizing to “Hangman” Adam Page (which also allowed for a sneak attack from the Blackpool Combat Club). All this played into Omega being distracted going into his IWGP US Title defense. After his victory, the BCC surrounded the ring leading to the unexpected return of Bryan Danielson appearing first to help Omega but then, to the shock of the crowd, siding alongside his stable in attacking Omega.
- Orange Cassidy defended the recently rebranded AEW International Championship against the Butcher with the Blade jumping the champion before the bell and the Blade being removed from ringside. The Blade’s return to ringside with a crowbar brought out Best Friends to even the odds and help their pal retain the title once more.
- Former friends Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale squared off with the Outcasts at ringside. Willow got in quite a bit of offense before the heel shenanigans began leading to Soho stealing a win and a post-match beatdown leading to Riho and Skye Blue hitting the ring, followed by AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter.
Lows:
- None
Less Notable:
- Pre-taped segment involving the JAS showing The Acclaimed a good time in St. Louis as their attempt to woo the former tag-team champions to their stable continues.
- The Blackpool Combat Club attacked Dalton Castle and the Boys on their way to the ring, getting an early start on their trios match which ended quickly with Claudio Castagnoli Ricola bombing one of the Boys in the middle of the ring. Nice heel moves by the BCC, followed up by their actions later in the night, but calling this a match is a bit of a stretch.
- Recap of the FTR/Ass Boys storyline reminding fans of the title match scheduled for next week.
- Pre-taped segment of Jade Cargill complaining about Taya Valkyrie and threatening to take more action against her on AEW Rampage.
- Pre-taped promo by Juice Robinson ahead of his match with Action Andretti on Rampage.
