AEW Collision - 5/11/24

The May 11th edition of AEW Collision included the Blackpool Combat Club vs. Top Flight, Adam Copeland defending the TNT Championship against Kyle O’Reilly, Will Ospreay vs. Lee Moriarty, Dax Hardwood vs. Tommy Billington, and Thunder Rosa vs. Robyn Renegade.

Highlights:

  • The match of the night was saved for the main event with Adam Copeland defending the TNT Championship against a very game hometown boy Kyle O’Reilly who had several near falls and multiple close call submission moves before Copeland eventually hit the Spear for the win. Rampage began with an in-ring follow up to the match playing into Copeland’s ongoing feud with the House of Black.
  • Collision started with the in-ring return of Bryan Danielson teaming with Claudio Castagnoli against Top Flight. Solid back and forth tag match with Danielson and Claudio getting the win. After the match Danielson gave props to Top Flight and cut a promo about taking part in the Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing. It’s also worth nothing that Castagnoli left the ring without fanfare during the promo (further playing into the idea that we may see a shakeup in the BCC in the near future).
  • Dax Harwood took the young Tommy “The Dynamite Kid” Billington to school. Humorous spots of Cash calling out “he’s just a kid” while watching his partner slap the shit out of the young wrestler. Match includes a lot of commentary about the original Dynamite Kid. The new Kid got in some late audience which got the crowd on his side before Harwood got the pin.
  • Thunder Rosa defeated Robyn Renegade with a sitting Cobra Clutch. Robyn continues to improve. I kept waiting for Charlotte to show up for a little twin magic shenanigans but Robyn was left to fight on her own.
  • Recap of the Mogul Embassy turning on Swerve Strickland at Dynamite. Later in the night we got Brian Cage and the Gates of Agony making short work of a trio of jobbers followed by Cage blaming Swerve for their betrayal. More notable than either of these segment was Swerve hitting the ring and decimating the tag team and getting revenge for their attack on Dynamite.
