- Title: Adventures of Superman – The Monkey Mystery

Superman Saturday takes us back to the 1950s and a strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. “The Monkey Mystery” is an odd episode about the daughter of an Eastern European scientist (Allene Roberts) making her way to the United States to deliver her father’s secret formula to stop atomic power to the President of the United States. Pivotal to the plot is an organ grinder’s monkey, dressed in a small Superman costume, who is used to deliver messages between the baddies in Metropolis but who accidentally puts a pivotal piece of information into the hands of Lois Lane (Phyllis Coates) who then spends most of the episode unconscious and off-screen after being attacked.
The episode is memorable for the opening somewhere in Eastern Europe and the montage using stock footage to get young Maria Moleska on a train in the United States where the microfilm while be stolen (and Lois will also be attacked). However, it’s really the monkey sequences used to pull in the younger audience that stand out including Clark‘s (George Reeves) idea to use the monkey to trace the criminals back to their base where they are also now holding Jim Olson (Jack Larson). Then, of course, it’s time for Superman to save the day.
