- Title: Adventures of Superman – The Case of the Talkative Dummy
- wiki: link
Superman Sunday takes us back to the 1950s and a strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. What do a ventriloquist dummy and the theft of armored cars have in common? That’s what Clark Kent (George Reeves) and Lois Lane (Phyllis Coates) investigate. After taking Jim Olson (Jack Larson) out for a treat on his birthday all three employees of The Daily Planet make a connection between a ventriloquist’s dummy talking on its own with the time and location of an armored car robbery.
While Clark and Lois put the pieces together, a more reckless Jim stumbles directly on to the plot at the bank leading him to be stuffed into a safe and nearly dropped to his death. Notable Superman moments include bullets from the banker’s gun bouncing off Superman’s chest (well, I should say they are heard bouncing off his chest as there is no visual for the gag), a bit of super-hearing leading Clark to identify the real person behind the crimes, and the hero rescuing Jimmy from the safe. All in all, it’s a goofy episode with more than a few plot holes (is the ventriloquist really not smart enough to know what’s going on?) that hasn’t aged all that well.
