Abominable and the Invisible City opens up its Second Season with the city now aware of magic creatures and Yi (Chloe Bennet), Jin (Tenzing Norgay Trainor), and Peng‘s (Ethan Loh) connection to them leading to an obnoxious vlogger insinuating himself into the group hoping to get video of Yi’s magic and magical creatures on a rampage. Yi’s struggles for the episode is trying to figure out how she performed magic without Everest at the end of last season. Jin eventually comes up with a solution that should allow her to continue to hone her abilities while the trio have more adventures this season.
The episode also sees the return of Burnish (Alan Cumming) in a eye-rolling subplot of fixing up Nian’s cave that makes almost as little sense as Nian attempting to live on the roof of Yi’s building with Everest in the meantime. I know this was played for laughs, but surely Burnish would have some place more likely to accommodate the giant creature? And just what is Nian supposed to do with all that human furniture he’s adding to the cave? Eventually the two subplots dovetail into each other as the vlogger’s mischief leads to real trouble and creates an opportunity for Yi to save her friends.
