- Title: 24: Live Another Day – Part 12
- wiki: link
24: Live Another Day comes to an end with a final confrontation between Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) and Cheng Zhi (Tzi Ma) while the United States and China race towards war and Kate (Yvonne Strahovski) makes a desperate attempt to save Audrey (Kim Raver) from Zhi’s men. Although war will be averted, and Jack will exact a measure of revenge on his old enemy, it won’t be without a cost as the season comes to a close with the death of a major character and Jack Bauer trading his life for another leaving the American super-agent back in harms way and the door open to another possible return sometime in the near future.
The final episode of the half-season should offer fans their money’s worth as Jack not only gets to take out the bad guy and save the day but also martyr himself for Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub). With Bauer once again imprisoned by a rival nation the show opens itself to several new possibilities including giving the directionless Kate the role of rescuing Bauer either for his length of service or when the next situation arises which needs a man of his particular skill-set. I’d love to see Strahovski (who shines here once again stealing nearly all of the finale’s best scenes) given the opportunity to carry such a show but I don’t know what, if anything, FOX has in mind for either Kate or Jack going forward.
The death of Audrey and defeatism emanating from President Heller (William Devane) all but guaranteeing his days in the Oval Office are numbered, along with Jack Bauer turning himself over to the Russians, ends the season on a definite down note. The world is safe, for now at least, but the cost was rather steep. What we’re offered is a dramatic final hour which wraps up the various threads of the season. However, given only a dozen episodes both the season the its finale do feels incomplete as if there is still half a story yet to be told.
