“This Kid’s Gonna Be Alight” is most notable for the show’s epilogue. In investigating a murder of a rapper, Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Faith (Iantha Richardson) begin investigating the studio which is a front for Rafael Wexford (Antwayn Hopper) to launder money and happens to be the same studio where Faith’s son Jeremy (Deion Smith) is working. Attempting to prove himself to Rafael, and keep his job after the GBI insinuate themselves into his business once more, Jeremy makes the biggest mistake of his life which provides Will only a single option to save the young man’s future (and also, coincidentally, push forward Will’s investigation into Rafael and his current activities).

Will Trent – Abigail B.

Arresting a man (John Ales) involved in child trafficking, Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and the GBI with the help of Marion (Gina Rodriguez) work to find the missing girl before she disappears forever. The ticking clock adds tension, as does Will’s guilt over not acting sooner and discovering the girl’s abduction too late. The major piece of the interrogation involves a bit of deception by Faith (Iantha Richardson) and the group into giving the man the immunity asked for, but not quite when or how he expected. While being helpful in the case to successfully trick the suspect, Marion plays a big role. However, the show doesn’t gloss over her recent trauma and incorporates that into the ongoing story.

Will Trent – Mariachi Shelley’s Frankenstein

In the middle of a tropical storm, with the building locked down, Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Angie (Erika Christensen) search for a serial killer on the lose while Dr. Chen (Kurt Yue) fights to save the life of the killer’s latest victim. While I feel there are some obvious scenes missing between the last episode and the beginning of this one with Will now completely onboard with Angie’s assertions that John (Dan Gill) isn’t the killer they are looking for, events pick up with the discovery of a new body hidden in the elevator shaft and the wounded Caroline (Christina Wren).

Will Trent – No Faith in Second Chances

As Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Faith (Iantha Richardson) investigate a body found under a house after a fire which seems to trace back to Rafael (Antwayn Hopper), Angie (Erika Christensen) and Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) investigate the murder of a young woman where all the evidence points to Angie’s former coworker (Dan Gill) who proclaims his innocence for the crime (along with the original crime which he was sent to jail for years before). Despite her initial belief in his guilt, so much so she even takes a shot at him in the episode, Angie begins to suspect that his claim of being framed might not be as outrageous as it initially seems (although she has trouble getting anyone in the department to agree with her).

Will Trent – Breathe with Me

While staying with Faith (Iantha Richardson), Evelyn Mitchell (LisaGay Hamilton) is abducted leading to an episode that explores the strained mother/daughter relationship of the pair as Faith, Will (Ramón Rodríguez), Angie (Erika Christensen), and Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) all work the case. The focus on Faith and her mother allows the show to put some emotional distance between Will and Angie who are both completely dialed in to finding Faith’s mother. “Breathe with Me” also shows Evelyn’s mind is sharp as ever an she still has a few tricks up her sleeve managing to stay alive long enough to be found. No tragedy here as Evelyn is returned safely and mother and daughter become closer  than they have in years.
