Voltron - White Lion television review

The Fifth Season comes to a close with Allura (Kimberly Brooks) and Lotor (A.J. LoCascio) entering Oriande, the fabled home of Altean alchemy while the rest of the Voltron team is forced to stay behind. Journeying through the mouth of a White Lion through a white hole, each faces a separate test. While Lotor fails, Allura succeeds in acquiring the prize (although we don’t exactly know what that means). Apparently happy for the princess’ success, will Lotor fall into the same pattern of jealousy and quest for power that doomed the previous generation? While that may be one possible outcome, another has learned the location of Oriande, and its likely she has her own plans for that knowledge.

Voltron - Blood Duel / Postmortem TV review

“Blood Duel” and “Postmortem” mark a shift in the series with the death of Zarkon (Neil Kaplan) at the hands of Lotor (A.J. LoCascio) with the help of the Paladins of Voltron. The first episode shows some cracks in the team over discussions of trusting Lotor versus turning him over to Zarkon in exchange for the captive Samuel Holt (Nolan North) before the team uses some deception of their own and rallies together to rescue Pidge‘s (Bex Taylor-Klaus) father leaving Lotor one-on-one with his father. Although you don’t expect the major villain to be wiped out mid-season, h choice does open new possibilities for the series.

Voltron - The Prisoner television review

The Fifth Season of Voltron: Legendary Defender opens with Lotor (A.J. LoCascio) a prisoner of the Paladins, and a useful one at that. Despite providing the Paladins with useful intel to help Voltron free nearly a third of the Galra Empire, Allura (Kimberly Brooks) finds it difficult to trust the son of Zarkon (Neil Kaplan). When further evidence of his trustworthiness is demanded, Lotor offers the Paladins the location of several valuable scientists including the father of Pidge (Bex Taylor-Klaus) and Matt (Blake Anderson). Racing out before the rest of the team can respond, brother and sister infiltrate the base with the help of their new friends. Although they are able to save several captives, they are far from the first to attack the prison, and are forced to leave without their father.

Voltron - Reunion television review

“Reunion” picks up the dormant plot thread of Pidge‘s (Bex Taylor-Klaus) missing family. Heading out on her own with a slim lead, Pidge will find a path which will eventually lead back her to her brother Matt (Blake Anderson), unaware that her search is helping a bounty hunter with plans of selling them both to the Galra. In terms of plot, there are a couple of nagging issues here. Since when can the Green Lion cloak? And how, if it was cloaked, was the bounty hunter able to track Pidge back to her brother? That said, “Reunion” scores high on the emotional scale while letting Pidge impress her brother for a change and giving us some extra flashbacks to Pidge’s life long before she became a paladin of Voltron.
