Transformers: Regeneration One #97

Transformers: Regeneration One #97The sudden arrival of Jhiaxus and his armada on Cyberton puts the Autobots on full alert. Despite his inital offer of peace, Rodimus Prime quickly discerns why Primus labelled the former senator a threat as Jhiaxus fills the Autobots’ leader in on what he’s been up to in the centuries since he left his homeworld. Not surprisingly, Rodimus turns down Jhiaxus’ offer for Cybertron to join “The Hub.”

Of course the senator’s warriors don’t wait for Rodimus’ refusal before attacking both the primitive Transformers (who had just recently returned to the surface) and the Dinobots who attempt to stand-up for their new friends. Sadly, the Dinobots and Jetfire are severally injured in the attack meaning we might not see them for the next several issues.

The issue ends on an interesting note as it appears Shockwave and Starscream‘s roles on the sidelines as silent observers is at an end now that Jihaxus (who Starsream has some connection to) has returned. And on Earth Fortress Maximus comes back online, but he may not be the same loyal Autobot soldier as he once was. Worth a look.

Transformers: Regeneration One #96

Transformers: Regeneration One #96Victorious over Bludgeon and Soundwave, and with a new leader in Rodimus Prime, the Autobots turn their attention to the four looming threats Primus warned the new Prime about: Galvatron (who is spirited off to safety by a Unicron cult), the mysterious Jhiaxus (who makes a shocking return to Cybertron), the Dark Matrix creature, and Spike Witwicky.

It will be interesting to see these various threats play out, either individual or if there is some kind of convergence that drives them to a tipping point. The future of Shockwave and Starscream, as well as the Dinobots and the ancient Transformers who have returned to the surface of the planet for the first time in eons, and what role they are to play also remains uncertain.

Although I’m a bit uncertain of the Spike and Dark Matrix creature subplots, Transformers: Regeneration One #96 does a good job of wrapping up the loose ends from the last arc and setting up several new threats for the Autobots moving forward. Worth a look.

Transformers: Regeneration One #95

Transformers: Regeneration One #95Cybertron is at war as the Autobots fight off both Decepticon forces and Bludgeon and his Warworld. Although the issue doesn’t feature Galvatron (who is certainly conspicuous by his absence) Transformers: Regeneration One #95 features a host of familiar faces including Omega Supreme, Blaster, Soundwave, and Shockwave and Starscream who are still debating what their role in the battle should be. Oh, and Grimlock? He’s back!

Finding evidence of Matrix energy below ground Kup leads the Wreckers on a search for answers. Sadly for most of the team, Bludgeon decides to follow and makes short work of pretty much all of Kup’s friends. However, the sudden appearance of Rodimus Prime freshly returned from his time-travel odyssey helps turn the tide.

The issue ends with several questions still unanswered about the future of Cyberton, but with Rodimus Prime the Autobots have a new leader and with Bludgeon’s defeat the comic should be able to turn its attention back on Galvatron and the Decepticons and the lingering issues on Earth. Worth a look.

Predacons Rising

  • Title: Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters – Predacons Rising
  • wiki: link

Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters - Predacons RisingAs an epilogue to the show which went of the year earlier this year, Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters – Predacons Rising returns the Autobots and Decepticons to the restored planet of Cybertron to face the new threat of Unicron (John Noble) who has assumed control of Megatron‘s (Frank Welker) fallen body and returned to Cybertron to destroy the planet once and for all. Sadly, like the series which proceeded it, the Beast Hunters movie closes without and appearance (or mention) of Grimlock and the Dinobots.

For a TV-movie with a running time of just over an hour, Predacons Rising includes quite a few storylines including Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) and Wheeljack (James Horan) heading into deep space to recover the AllSpark, Predaking (John Noble) meeting two more of Shockwave‘s (David SobolovPredacon clones who nearly kill Ultra Mangus (Michael Ironside), Unicron creating a zombie army of Terrorcons out of the fossils of the original Predacons, and Autobots, Decepticons, and Predacons coming together to save Cybertron.

Transformers: Regeneration One #0

Transformers: Regeneration One #0Sent traveling through time and space by Primus, Hot Rod finds himself in various settings all across time as Transformers: Regeneration One uses this zero issue to tie the existing comic continuity and the 80’s Transformers movie together in a single issue. Although occasionally confusing, the comic mostly succeeds.

On his trip through time Hot Rod watches Optimus Prime sacrifice the Matrix to stop the Deathbringer, watch as the Earth is consumed by zombie Decepticons, see hidden origins of the early Transformers long purged from their memories, and on a planet of junk watch Galvatron fight to the death with a robot who looks very familiar.

Despite not quite following all the various plotlines (zombie Decepticons? and what exactly did Jhiaxus steal from the rest of the Transformers millennia ago?), the issue does well to deliver plenty of action and provide an opportunity to bring both the Matrix of leadership back into the original Marvel Comics continuity but introduce Rodimus Prime as well. Worth a look.
