Destro #1

Destro #1

Set in the new combined G.I. JOE / Transformers Engergon Universe, Destro #1 works as a reintroduction to the character. Using the Energon supplied by Cobra Commander, Destro uses the new prototype B.A.T.s to settle a personal score and set up a relative on the throne of the Republic of Darklonia. The test is a mixed success, in taking over the country (but also having no control of the bloodthirsty soldiers who kill friend and foe indiscriminately) and also raises the ire of Cobra for such a public demonstration.

Transformers #9

The ninth issue of the new Transformers series gives us the space bridge and new characters from Cybertron taking their first steps on Earth. The most notable of these is Shockwave, one of my favorite Transformers, who certainly retains the ruthlessness from previous incarnations of the character although this version is more fiery and outspoken and a bit less cold and calculating than the original. The bridge also provides a way to get Elita One and Ultra Magnus into the Earth storyline, as well as the Combaticons who are chasing them.

Transformers #8

Transformers #8 is most notable for the number of familiar faces introduced to the Energon Universe for the first time. In an issue that gives us a good look at what the Decepticons could be under Soundwave‘s leadership we get Astrotrain, who was found trapped on the unearthed Nemesis spaceship that brough the Decepticons to Earth, We also get the return of Jetfire (although only in plane form), as well as and appearances on Cybertron by both Ultra Magnus and one of my favorites in Shockwave.

Transformers #7

The Autobots and Decepticons stick to themselves in Transformers #7. The Autobots lick their wounds, struggling to keep repairing their brethren from Cyberton, and dealing with the fallout of recent events. Arcee attempts to console Carly whose hatred of Starscream and the Decepticons has only grown since Cliffjumper was unable to kill him, and we also get a story about the Autobot who taught her to be such a fearsome soldier (whose remains are found on Cybertron). And Optimus Prime has his first side-effect of Sparkplug‘s sacrifice.
