Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #11

tmnt-11-coverThe latest issue is jam-packed with action as Splinter takes on the entire Foot Clan and the Teenange Mutant Ninja Turtles do battle with a local gang who is sick of seeing freaks and ninjas invade their turf. Although we’ll have to wait yet another issue for the promised Splinter/Shredder throwdown there’s plenty of action.

The story introduces Casey‘s old friend Angel, part of the Purple Dragons whose turf the Turtles new home sits in the middle of. At first the Dragons and Turtles don’t quite see eye-to-eye, but learning they have a common enemy in The Foot Clan the two groups agree to set aside their differences… for the time being.

It’s Splinter who takes center stage in terms of this issue’s aciton as he not only takes takes down every single Foot ninja The Shredder can throw at him, and the Foot’s mutant soldier Alopex, be he still has enough moxie left over to challenge the man who destroyed everything he loved. Worth a look.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #10

tmnt-10-coverWhile the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles worry and search for their missing master, Splinter finds himself kindapped by the Foot Clan and forced to prove his valor in a fight to the death. Although he is able to defeat his opponent, Splinter’s refusal to kill the ninja brings him face-to-face with an old enemy, Oroku Saki, in his new form as the leader of the Foot Clan – The Shredder!

As Leo and Donnie argue over mysticism and reincarnated Foot Clan, April gives the turtles a new base of operations when she decides to share an abandoned storefront with apartments above where they can rest and plan on how to save Splinter.

I’m a little surprised how quickly the Turtles have abandoned the sewers, but I’m happy to see that Splinter has finally confronted his old adversary (even if it does seem a little drawn out). Now he just has to make it out alive to give us the confrontation we really want to see – the first battle between the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Shredder. Worth a look.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #9

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #9While April tries to come to terms with the fact that the four cute little turtles she named have mutated and grown up to be teenage mutant ninja heroes the foursome set out to save Splinter from Old Hob and whatever plans Stockgen has for their master.

With April and Casey‘s help, and Michelangelo‘s reprogrammed Mouser, the TMNT break into Stockgen and take down the guards and giant Mouser, but by the time they make to where Splinter was being held he’s already been kidnapped by a new (or rather old) enemy – the Foot Clan.

Honestly, the first page of April working out the story, and her reaction to them reintroducing themselves to her, is worth picking up all by itself. We also get plenty of heroes in a half-shell action. And, certainly not least important, issue #9 also finally gives us the first real shot of the Shredder, in all his ridiculous glory. Oh yeah, you know you want it. Worth a look.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Micro Series #4

tmnt-micro-series-4-leonardoIn much the same way Marvel’s “.1” comics have futhered filled in stories and focused on aspects not covered in the main title, IDW’s “Micro Series” has done the same for their current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.

Each issue of the series has centered around one of the Turtles. With issue four we finally get to the team’s leader, and my favorite TMNT, Leonardo. This issue picks up where the current series has left off with Splinter captured by Old Hob. While out on patrol alone, Leonardo finds himself ambushed by an entire army of Foot Ninjas at an abandoned construction site.

You definitely get your money’s worth in terms of action as almost the entire comic showcases Leo’s fight with the ninja and their mysterious leader (who may, or may not be the Shredder). In terms of writing and art I don’t think it measures up to the the main title. However, if you have a favorite Ninja Turtle, this series has given you a chance to grab a comic centered solely around them. That’s not too shabby, even if it is slightly overpriced. Worth a look.
