The Mentalist - Red, White and Blue

The CBI is called in to investigate the murder of a army medic (April Billingsley) specializing in helping soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder. Solving the case means working with the victim’s platoon commander (Matt McTighe) who is more than a little miffed the CBI took control of the investigation from his men. Talking with another female officer (Lily Nicksay), Jane (Simon Baker) and Lisbon (Robin Tunney) learn the victim had an unknown secret admirer at the time of her death as well as problems with some of the men in her unit. They also discover the man who placed the 911 call but fled the scene was one of the medic’s patients (Jesse Luken) who suffers from short-term memory loss and has absolutely no memory of the entire night.

Bertram (Michael Gaston) informs Lisbon (Robin Tunney) that she and the CBI will be working with Agent Kirkland (Kevin Corrigan) who refuses to elaborate on why Homeland Security is so interested in Lorelei. Lorelei’s return, and this latest murder, force Jane (Simon Baker) to admit to his role in her escape which Lisbon fears may come to light now that everyone is taking a hard look at Lorelei’s case again.

Jane (Simon Baker) and Lisbon (Robin Tunney) talk with the victim’s nephew (Michael Gladis) and his wife (Elizabeth Bogush) who explain the woman had become a paranoid shut-in in the last two years, which her doctor (Erick Avari) confirms as the early stages of dementia, and only left the house for weekly sailing trips aboard her boat with a young woman (Vanessa Ray) from the marina who paints a far different picture of the victim.

Jane (Simon Baker) and Lisbon (Robin Tunney) talk with a the student’s advisor (Zuleikha Robinson), one of her professors (Rob Benedict), and some of the victim’s fellow graduate students (Samantha Quan, Rosalie Ward, Casey Graf) learning the victim was well-liked but also envied for landing a prestigious grant that would cover the cost of her tuition and studies.
