The Flash - All's Wells That Ends Wells television review

The first episode of The Flash‘s Seventh Season picks up the unfinished threads of last year’s truncated season with an hour filled with enough plot for three episodes and wild tonal shifts. Most notably, the episode features the breakthrough necessary to power the artificial Speed Force and restore Barry‘s (Grant Gustin) disappearing speed. However, there’s a catch as Nash (Tom Cavanagh) connection to the Multiverse turns out to be the only possible fuel, meaning The Flash has found yet another way for Tom Cavanagh to die. It’s sad to see Cavanagh exit again, although there still is one version of the character out there looking to tangle with the Flash (but Reverse-Flash doesn’t factor into this episode at all). Before exiting stage left, again, the episode includes a goofy sequence with the various versions of Wells stored temporarily within Barry’s body which is best forgotten as soon as possible.

The Flash - Success is Assured television review

It’s more accurate to say the Sixth Season of The Flash ends with “Success is Assured” as little effort is made to come to a conclusion in the shortened season finale. Yes, Joseph Carver‘s (Eric Nenninger) reign of terror will come to an end as Eva McCulloch (Efrat Dor) gets her revenge, but Iris (Candice Patton) remains trapped in the mirror universe and Barry (Grant Gustin) is no closer to creating an artificial Speed Force or preventing the loss of the little speed he has left. Also, with so little time left, it’s a bit odd for yet another episode to devote so much time to Killer Frost‘s (Danielle Panabaker) personal story which is completely disconnected from the season arc and ultimately doesn’t lead the character anywhere but into an obvious state of hiatus.

The Flash - Pay the Piper television review

Everything old is new again. While offering glimpses into Iris (Candice Patton) finding Kamilla (Victoria Park), who the show finally remembered is also trapped in the mirror universe, and Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) offering some encouragement to Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker), the show mainly focuses on the lack of team morale for Team Flash given their recently loses. Enter yet another version of Godspeed to terrorize the city. With Barry‘s (Grant Gustin) speed waning the team looks to an unlikely ally as the episode also introduces a Crisis-rebooted version of Hartley Rathaway (Andy Mientus) who agrees to help Barry and friends in return for the team fixing his henchman and boyfriend who was injured during one of the Pied Piper’s run-ins with the Flash in the rebooted timeline.

The Flash - Liberation television review

Following Barry‘s (Grant Gustin) realization that there is something wrong with his wife, The Flash turns its attention on the mirror Iris (Candice Patton) and the machinations of Eva McCulloch (Efrat Dor). Despite putting off some serious conspiracy-theorist vibes, Barry is able to enlists others to his cause. However, the mirror version of his wife has one last trick up her sleeve turning the tables on the Flash giving the mirror minions the chance to obtain the final piece of the puzzle to allow the Mirror Master to return to the real world. Events come to a head with the limited-powered Flash getting his butt kicked by the Mirror Master and a bit of a schmaltzy epilogue featuring Iris and Barry separated from each other for the foreseeable future.

The Flash - So Long and Goodnight television review

While the main storyline of “So Long and Goodnight” centers around Joe‘s (Jesse L. Martin) attempts to take down Joseph Carver (Eric Nenninger), and the continuing depletion of Barry (Grant Gustin) speed, the B-story of Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) hunting down Sue (Natalie Dreyfuss) steals the episode. Sue may get the drop on the guys once more, but our elongated hero has a couple of tricks up his sleeve as the combination of Cisco and Ralph getting one-upped provides some lighter moment to an episode full of consequences for our characters. The storyline also lets us in on Ralph’s deduction of the less-nefarious reason behind all of Sue’s recent breaking-and-entering while continuing to build on the chemistry between the two characters.
