As expected, The Flash pulls in several familiar faces for the show’s 150th episode which also acts as the first-half of the season finale. The various Godspeeds continue to war across the city. Team Flash’s plan to take them down fails and alerts Barry (Grant Gustin) to the fact that the Godspeeds have an added hate for Bart (Jordan Fisher). The episode does offer the return of John Wesley Shipp as Jay Garrick, although he’s mostly used as a hostage, as well as the return of one of the show’s recently departed cast members. Suffering defeat, with Bart in a coma and no plan on how to defeat the Godspeeds, Barry prepares to enter the mind of an amnesiac time-traveler (Karan Oberoi) hoping to find answers on how he can save his city and perhaps alter the future to keep his children safe.

Godspeeds from the future are wreaking havoc on Central City searching for August Heart (Karan Oberoi) who is trapped in the present but without any memory of who he is or why the Godspeeds want him. Barry (Grant Gustin) also discovers his wife’s grip on the timeline is in jeopardy as his fears nearly consume him about the uncertain future of his family. However, the episode is most memorable for it’s guest-stars. First, we get John Diggle (David Ramsey) showing up with A.R.G.U.S. tech to help fight the Godspeeds (and running from a destiny that was teased in Arrow‘s finale) and, helping to set the stage for next week’s 150th episode, we get the return of XS (Jessica Parker Kennedy) and the introduction of Impulse (Jordan Fisher).

• Title: The Flash – Family Matters (Part 1)

The Flash follows up one Barry (Grant Gustin) has a bad idea episode with a second one. Unlike “Timeless,” where the episode startled the line, “Family Matters (Part 1)” pushes Barry into full dick mode as he becomes convinced training an ill-prepared Alexa (Sara Garcia), who is still afraid of the monster inside her, is the only way to keep her safe. It’s finally Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) who steps in with the personal experience that Alexa needs to hear. Despite the process of getting her ready not running smoothly, and Barry putting her into harm’s way in a somewhat irresponsible manner, Alexa is able to get control of the monster and help reach Psych (Ennis Esmer) who has been using his powers to attack old friends who turned their back on him years before.

Barry‘s (Grant Gustin) plan to deal with the Forces creates a schism within Team Flash in “Timeless.” Despite his own history which says attempting to change the past is a really, really, really bad idea, Barry becomes insistent on the idea of resetting time to prevent the Forces from being born. Iris (Candice Patton) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) are against the plan, but that isn’t enough to prevent Barry from enlisting the help of the lasting remaining Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh). In an episode that cements family as the theme of the season, the show also lays the foundation for Cisco’s exit as this has been confirmed to be Carlos Valdes final season on the show (on the heels of another character disappearing into prison for life).
