The Blacklist: Redemption - Kevin Jensen TV review

The second episode of The Blacklist: Redemption pushes the theme of mothers and lost sons with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. When the son of an old friend is detained and tortured in Kyrkistan by government officials who believe the journalist is actually a CIA spy, Scottie Hargrave (Famke Janssen) mounts a rescue mission despite the United States Government explicitly ordering her not to. The plan has more than a few kinks to work out, although Tom (Ryan Eggold), Solomon (Edi Gathegi), and Nez (Tawny Cypress) are able to extract the man from a maximum-security prison with few resources at their disposal.

The Blacklist: Redemption - Leland Bray TV review

The first episode of the new spin-of throws Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) together with the woman he believes to be his mother Susan Hargrave (Famke Janssen). A meeting with the biological father (Terry O’Quinn) who recently faked his own death, along with the warnings from Reddington (James Spader), force Tom to keep quiet about his true identity while suspecting that his mother is up to something.

The Blacklist - The Apothecary television review

The final episode before its hiatus, allowing its new spin-off to spread its wings, “The Apothecary” would be a more interesting episode if the solution to the entire episode wasn’t so obvious to everyone but Reddington (James Spader) and the FBI. Poisoned by a member of his inner-circle, with hazy memories of the night before, Red spends the entire episode stumbling around the city in search of his murderer before time runs out. Meanwhile, the FBI is sent after the Apothecary (Jamie Harrold) who invented the custom poison Red was doused with and alone knows the cure.

The Blacklist - Dr. Adrian Shaw

The capture of Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) doesn’t last long, nor does the small bits of knowledge Lizzie (Megan Boone) has been able to scrape together about her past when she realizes the dying madman obsessed with her isn’t her biological father. The two-part episode includes an escape from a locked-down hospital wing, Reddington (James Spader) trading himself for Lizzie’s safe return, and a confrontation between Kirk and Reddington that suggests (but doesn’t confirm) a few important details about Lizzie’s parents.

The Blacklist - Miles McGrath

With Liz (Megan Boone) and Tom (Ryan Eggold) safe, Reddington (James Spader) turns his attention to finding Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) and rescuing baby Agnes. This involves tracking town “criminal incubator” Miles McGrath (Tate Ellington) who is planning a heist of biological specimens (and potential weapons), one of which Kirk has strong interests in. With the help of Tom, who goes undercover for part of the heist crew, Reddington is able to prevent Kirk from getting his hands on the virus but is not able to capture Kirk or recover the missing baby.
