The Blacklist - The Cyranoid television review

It’s been a couple of years since I sat down and watched and episode of The Blacklist. Honestly, I was a bit surprised it was still on. Built on deceptions, secrets, swerves, the battle of wills, and half-truths, the show long ago outlived the original plotline and has attempt to continue to morph in able to keep things going while struggling to still keep its storyline at least marginally plausible. “The Cyranoid” is good example at how ridiculous things have gotten. Mara Davi guest-stars as a stand-in for Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone who doesn’t appear on camera), an agent with a camera and microphone following Keen’s instructions which include proposing a partnership with Neville Townsend (Reg Rogers) and committing murder in the black site of the FBI. While primarily focused on the search for Keen, the episode also features an ongoing storyline about Raymond Reddington‘s (James Spader) fear the FBI is closing in on an asset who still has an important role to play in his larger byzantine schemes.

While after important information of his own, Reddington helps the FBI track down the surgeon but not before the doctor meets a gruesome end thanks to his latest client (Christopher Lambert) who alludes FBI custody and disappears with plans of his own.

The Blacklist - Nicholas T. Moore television review

The Blacklist meets The Village in an odd episode of misdirection that sends Elizabeth (Megan Boone) on an investigation that leads back to a woodland cult built off a sci-fi novel while Reddington (James Spader) works on uncovering the whereabouts of the duffel bag. “Nicholas T. Moore” is a middling episode without either a Blacklister or any movement on the season’s larger mystery that wraps up Red’s “other daughter” subplot, leaves him no closer to his prize, and gets Novabi (Mozhan Marnò) captured possibly foreshadowing the death of yet another supporting character before season’s end. The later is likely to be the major focus of next week’s episode, while any movement on Red’s bag of secrets will likely be left for the season finale.

The Blacklist - Ian Garvey: Conclusion television review

“Ian Garvey: Conclusion” likely wraps up the the Ian Garvey (Jonny Coyne) saga in a fun episode in which no character gets exactly what they want. Filled with betrayal and twists, and the amusing return of Raleigh Sinclair (John Noble), this one is a hell of a lot of fun. With the FBI unable to take Garvey down by legal means, and wanting to keep an important secret from Elizabeth (Megan Boone), Reddington (James Spader) chooses to use a bit of misdirection by framing Garvey for the murder of the corrupt cop’s drug-dealer meal-ticket. Neither Liz, nor the audience, learn the importance of the duffel bag full of bones, but due to Garvey’s shooting, Red gets no closer to regaining his property either.
