The Blacklist - Cape May

In the calm before the storm, Reddington (James Spader) disappears following Lizzie‘s (Megan Boone) death. After a week in an opium den (making him a less-than-reliable protagonist) the FBI’s most useful confidential informant makes his way to Cape May where he struggles to separate his current situation from the events of his last visit decades before. The appearance of a suicidal woman (Lotte Verbeek) who Red saves from drowning herself in the ocean with an army of masked assassins after her gives Reddington a momentary reprieve from his grief.

Reddington (James Spader) uses the resources of the FBI to further a personal vendetta in tracking down a negotiator (Tony Shalhoub) who attempts to unite two warring crime families through marriage in order the further the interests of his own conglomerate. Of course to further his cause Alistair Pitt will not only have to convince the heads of both families that such a union is in their best interest but also remove any obstacles (such as the young man’s current fiance). Tied to the actions of one of the negotiator’s former deals, we’re given flashbacks to Red’s relationship with a woman named Josephine (Stephanie Szostak) and his reasoning for vengeance on the negotiator whose actions left her a broken shell of her former self.

The Blacklist - Mr. Gregory Devry

Lizzie‘s (Megan Boone) new role as a consultant begins not with hunting a member of The Blacklist but with the arrest of an unknown man (Jake Weber) claiming to be the real Raymond Reddington (James Spader). Knowing sensitive information only the true Reddington should know, including the location of the Shell Island Retreat (an assembly of high-level criminals), the impostor attempts to prove that he is in fact the true Raymond Reddington. Denied a gun or further field experience, Lizzie’s new role will take some getting used to while also opening her up to the kinds of unexpected and unprovoked attacks which close the episode.

The Blacklist - The Director

The Blacklist returns from it’s mid-season hiatus with a two-part episode which will finally reveal Reddington‘s (James Spader) plan to stop the Cabal, clear Lizzie (Megan Boone), and (at least somewhat) restore the show’s status quo by targeting Peter Kotsiopulos (David Strathairn). While the first episode is spent primarily just keeping Lizzie alive and out of the hands of the Cabal, the second-half slowly reveals Red’s plan as the pieces put in place over the first half of the show’s Third Season finally come together (including a well executed con allowing the group to grab the Director from under the noses of his own security).
