The Acolyte - Episode 7

“Choice,” the seventh episode of the season, provides the Jedi perspective to the same events of the season’s third episode, “Destiny.” I don’t think we needed another full episode flashback episode here which seems like a bit of waste considering the show is winding to a close and also there’s not really anything new presented or revealed. We see the growing tensions between the Jedi and the witches, the spark which ignites, and Sol‘s (Lee Jung-jae) fear for the safety of the children. And, unable to save them both, we see his choice to save Osha (Lauren Brady), but it’s simply a matter of perspective with no new information provided. The only real bright spot is the episode offers more of Kelnacca and Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) who were underutilized for most of the season.

Inquisitors #1

Inquisitors #1

Featuring the Force-wielding Inquisitors introduced in Star Wars Rebels, the first issue of the new mini-series starts on the planet Targyon with the Grand Inquisitor searching for Jedi Tensu Run who Darth Vader has tasked him in finding. Not finding the Jedi, and displeased by the locals unwillingness to provide information about his whereabouts, he leaves death in his wake. The comic also provides some flashbacks Tensu Run taking down an Imperial outpost on his own and freeing prisoners beginning a legend the Dark Lord of the Sith wants squashed before it spreads any further creating a hero for others to rally behind.

The Acolyte - Episode 6

After it was revealed that The Acolyte centered around a pair of twins you knew eventually we’d get around to the obligatory Parent Trap situation (especially considering this is a Disney product making such a turn of events inevitable). Having taken her sister’s identity, Mae (Amandla Stenberg) spends some time with Sol (Lee Jung-jae) plotting his murder until her deception is uncovered. Her capture seems to set up a revelation about the events which occurred on Brendok years earlier involving Sol, and the Jedi Mae have killed, which he and the others appear to have hidden from the Jedi.

Darth Maul: Black, White & Red #3

Darth Maul: Black, White & Red #3

The standalone story of “The Mission” sends Darth Maul on a mission for his master to a moon of the planet Dawk in the Outer Rim to search out and kill a Devaronian known as Coir Cion who plans to blackmail Senator Palpatine in order to procure a pardon for his crimes. This is exactly the kind of comic I want for characters like Darth Maul and Darth Vader. Let them loose against a foe in a fury of action and slaughter. If you want to present these characters and deadly and menacing we need to see examples of this (and not Rebels running roughshod over them all the time).
