Star Wars: The Bad Batch - The Harbinger

In what feels like an awkward bit of fan service, Star Wars: The Bad Batch brings in the character of Asajj Ventress (Nika Futterman) from the The Clone Wars series as the character to deliver the (rather obvious) news about what the “M count” stands for. While also bringing back one of the most divisive terms in Star Wars canon, the episode suggests that Omega‘s (Michelle Ang) high count allows for the possibility of the Force. While Omega has never shown any Force ability, and Ventress’ “tests” don’t show anything either, the need of a clone to have access to the Force is of course central to the events of The Rise of Skywalker.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Infiltration / Extraction

Now with Omega (Michelle Ang) and Crosshair (Dee Bradley Baker) back in the fold, Star Wars: The Bad Batch turns its attention to working the other clones back into the larger story. After capturing one of the new clone assassins targeting both senators and searching for Omega, Rex (Baker) and his team contact Hunter (Baker) unknowingly putting them in danger of another assassin. While “Infiltration” lays the foundation of the episode and brings the characters together, “Extraction” centers around the heroes racing to stay one-step ahead of the Imperials on their trail. The episodes are solid, but not without some head-scratching moments in terms of the logic given events already laid out for the show.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch - The Return

“A Different Approach” picks up events with Omega (Michelle Ang) and Crosshair (Dee Bradley Baker) on the run together and the new pup teaching the old dog a few new tricks as Omega takes the lead in less murdery plans on getting back to the rest of the squad. It’s a nice little episode building the comradery of the two characters even more before delivering them to a remote location in time for a reunion.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Shadows of Tantiss

“Shadows of Tantiss” makes good use of a ticking tock trope using the blood sampling we saw introduced in “Confined.” With Omega‘s (Michelle Ang) blood now in the system, she’s forced to escape with Crosshair (Dee Bradley Baker) before the sample is tested leading to a hurried, but ultimately successful, escape from Tantiss. However, now that the Empire knows the secret they have been searching for so relentlessly is locked in Omega’s genetic code you would expect them to redouble their efforts to capturing her again.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Confined

The Season Three premiere of Star Wars: The Bad Batch focuses on the daily routine of Omega (Michelle Ang) now a prisoner of the Imperial Research Facility on Weyland. We don’t get the rest of the Bad Batch, except for Crosshair (Dee Bradley Baker) who is also a guinea pig for the doctors. Because the focus is the structure and banality of Omega’s current plight without hope of escape, the premiere provides less action than almost any episode of the series, although there are some important pieces to the overall puzzle revealed.
