The Mandalorian - Sanctuary television review

In one of the weaker episodes of The Mandalorian‘s First Season, and oddly enough the only one that got its own LEGO set, the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and the Child attempt to hide out on Sorgan from those hunting them after breaking his contract with the Imperials and rescuing the 50 year-old infant from their secret laboratory. “Sanctuary” features a truncated Seven Samurai plot of the Mandalorian and his new pal former Rebel Alliance Shock trooper Cara Dune (Gina Carano) take too little money to protect an isolated village from bandits with an AT-ST. The army the pair put together is laughable, but the fight sequence at the end still works well enough.

The Mandalorian - Chapter 1 TV review

The first episode of the Disney+ series introduces us to a nameless Mandalorian bounty hunter (Pedro Pascal) first through a rather routine bounty and second through a new job off-the-books that raises several red flags for our protagonist but whose payout cannot be ignored. Series creator Jon Favreau, who also wrote the first episode aims for a tone reminiscent of the Mos Eisley Cantina found in the original Star Wars. The early bar fight to open the episode and the later attack on a heavily-armed compound both show off the character’s skill-set, while the final scene of the episode offers a glimpse into the character’s emotional state.

Star Wars Rebels - The Complete Fourth Season Blu-ray reviewThe final season of Star Wars Rebels begins with the Rebels helping the Mandalorians rescue Sabine‘s (Tiya Sircar) father and ends with a final battle between the Rebellion and the Empire for Lothal. In-between, the season offers several highlights including the loss of a member of the Ghost, a large victory for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), the return of Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein), and episodes exploring how Lothal’s creatures are tied to Rebel’s fate against the Empire. I know there are those that prefer The Clone Wars (and I’m happy to see it return in limited form), but I’d much prefer more episodes featuring these characters.

Star Wars Rebels - Family Reunion / and Farewell TV review

The two-part finale of Star Wars Rebels wraps us several ongoing storylines while foreshadowing possible new adventures for some of these characters somewhere down the line. In the final two episodes the siege of Lothal will come to an end, Ezra (Taylor Gray) will be tempted one last time by the Dark Side before firmly choosing the path that Kanan and his friends helped pave for him. Turning himself over to Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) to save the civilians of Lothal, Ezra buys time for the rest of the team to get control of the Imperial Dome and complete their mission. It’s an action-packed finale that, like several episodes of the series, features creatures connected to the Force playing an important role as Ezra calls on the Purrgil to help rid Lothal of Thrawn.
