Tales of the Empire - The Path of Hate

“The Path of Hate” is a disappointing end to the Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) storyline. Instead of showing us her working under Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), the storyline jumps to a time after the Empire’s defeat and Thrawn’s disappearance in the era of the New Republic where officials arrive on the planet to try and take Calodan away from the magistrate. Of all the possible stories to tell over her life, this seems one of the least interesting as its giving us basically the version of the character we’ve already seen in The Mandalorian rather than expand her story by showing us something new as she brutally kills and destroys rather than gives in.

Star Wars Sunday takes us back to the second episode in the three-episode arc filling in the backstory of jump forward to a disillusioned Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) working for the Empire as the magistrate of Corvus who at this point are already bristling under her control and inability to make good on the promises she made to locals.

Tales of the Empire - Devoted

While the first three episodes of Tales of the Empire deal with the backstory of Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto), the final three turn their attention to former Jedi Barriss Offee (Meredith Salenger) whose fall to the Dark Side was chronicled in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Tales of the Empire picks up that thread with Barriss being approached in prison by after Order 66 and the fall of the Jedi. In “Devoted” former Jedi Lyn Rakish (Rya Kihlstedt) offers Barriss a new path bringing her into the Empire’s new training program for Force wielders which is revealed to be the formation of the Inquisitors.

Tales of the Empire - The Path of Fear

The first episode of the animated Tales of the Empire series provides an origin for Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) last seen in Disney+’s Ahsoka series. We witness the slaughter of Morgan’s tribe by the Separatist Droid Army and the death of her mother to General Grievous (Matthew Wood). Given shelter by the Mountain Clan, the Nightsister chooses against a new path and instead to arm herself and other young witches bringing them into the path of the army.
