Spenser (Robert Urich) finds nothing but trouble after taking on a friend of Susan (Barbara Stock) as a client. Continually lied to by the college professor (Robin Groves) who asks Spenser to track down a gigolo (Burke Moses) who stole some jewelry from her, Spenser stumbles on something more complicated involving the money the woman stole to willingly give to the con man, a mobster’s (Hansford Rowe) interest in the professor’s work which could be turned into a profitable new street drug, and scummy private investigator (Leon Russom) in the middle of it all.

For Throwback Thursday we turn we turn our attention back to the mean streets of Boston. Things get complicated when the Boston Police Department goes after Martin Quirk (Richard Jaeckel) who some believe tipped off criminals to a recent failed bust. The fact that Quirk won’t defend himself only makes him look more guilty leaving Belson (Ron McLarty) to defend his partner in the department and Spenser (Robert Urich) to do some sleuthing. As Spenser suspects, he finds no dirt on Quirk (the straightest arrow our private eye has ever come across), but he does discover a sleazeball land developer (James Douglas) and his criminal son (Bruce MacVittie) are putting the squeeze to Quirk after uncovering the fact that Mrs. Quirk (Shirley Knight) has been stepping out on her husband.

For Throwback Thursday we turn we turn our attention back to the mean streets of Boston. “The Killer Within” goes a little over-the-top with a story about spies and multiple personalities (a well-mined plot from 80s television). Hired by a client to protect the woman’s sister from a disgruntled ex, Spenser‘s (Robert Urich) job is complicated by the fact that both sisters are two personalities of the same woman (Nancy Paul). Witnessing an attempt on the more robust personality by a high-class assassin (Jon DeVries) leads the Boston P.I. down a path uncovering the woman’s past as an agent for the CIA and motives for her wanting to revenge on those who betrayed her and others wanting her silenced before she can bring troubling secrets to light.
