Silk #1

Relaunched for the third time in three years, new volume of Silk begins with our heroine the protagonist of a film noir detective story in mid-20th Century Los Angeles looking for a missing kid. It’s a stylish way to kick off the new series, which delays what is really happening until the last few pages where we see her psychiatrist and Saya Ishii working together and being responsible for the fake world Cindy is only just beginning to question as the comic comes to a close. Sadly, this means the noir world is likely coming to an end.

Cindy Moon gets a new comic and new writer. First up, Cindy dealing with the unexpected surge in celebrity of her spidery-alter-ego and the sarcophaguses of a hidden South Korean temple getting opened in a New York museum by some rather stupid kids who discover the hard way that putting themselves in danger for social media followers is going to end badly.

Much of what fans have come to expect in early Silk runs is still present here including Cindy’s internal monologue and narration, her dual jobs as an online journalist and super-hero (including taking down some dimwitted robbers), and keeping up with her therapy appointments in a less than full social calendar. As to what was awakened in the museum, it can’t be anything good. Looks like Cindy’s dance card just filled up.

Silk #2

Silk #2 comic reviewThere’s definitely some old school Spider-Man vibes happening in the new volume of Silk with Cindy Moon working for J. Jonah Jameson, although her boss seems to appreciate Silk far more than he ever did the city’s other Web-Head, and doing some further investigation while spinning webs in tights. The story that has Threats & Menaces interest is the attack on local gangs which Cindy has connected to the tech company Fujinet through some unusual tech.

Issue #2 provides Silk her first look at the cat demon Kasha who is working for Saya Ishii and Fujinet. She also helps arrange a safe spot for the local gangs to sit down and gets a new therapist (who, unknown to her, is actually Saya’s brother pumping her for information about her story).
