Super Secret Crisis War #4

Super Secret Crisis War #4As the mini-series moves past the halfway-point, the group of displaced heroes battle the robot versions of themselves created by the League of Extraordinary Villains. Although hopelessly outnumbered by the robotic duplicates, Samurai Jack, Ben Tennyson, Dexter, Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttecup manage to hold their own. Eventually Aku stops the battle by threatening the homeworlds of each of the heroes should they refuse to surrender and allow their consciousness to be copied, altered, and installed in each of the warriors making the robotic army unstoppable.

Although the latest issue continues to keep Mojo Jojo on the sidelines, the reveal of Aku’s true plan and threat against a world Mojo has no intention of letting be destroyed before he can conquer it, convinces the Powerpuff Girls’ arch-nemesis to switch sides and (GASP!) play the hero?!

Super Secret Crisis War #3

Super Secret Crisis War #3Locked in a space station in another dimension, Samurai Jack, Ben Tennyson, Dexter, Bubbles, Blossom, Buttecup, Ed, Edd, and Eddy get separated into small groups while battling the robots of Aku and Vilgax many of whom have been created to look like our heroes. This allows for some intriguing team-ups including the chance to see Samurai Jack and Bubbles fight side-by-side for an entire issue (a pairing I’d gladly pay to see more of).

Continuing the trend of the mini-series as it hits the halfway mark, Super Secret Crisis War #3 includes more betrayals and mechanations among the group as each villain decides he is obviously the greatest member of the League of Extraordinary Villains.

Super Secret Crisis War #2

Super Secret Crisis War #2Beaten and caged by the League of Extraordinary Villains, the second issue of Super Secret Crisis War sees Samurai Jack, Ben Tennyson, Dexter, Bubbles, Blossom, Buttecup, Ed, Edd, and Eddy meet and begin fighting back against the robot army created by their shared enemies.

The first issue of the mini-series focused primarily on Aku‘s plan and gathering the other villains (Mojo Jojo, Vilgax, and Mandark) to his cause. Here the heroes carry the bulk of the load as each shows off for the other. The lack of powers or fighting prowess makes Dexter, Ed, Edd, and Eddy certainly stand-out, but I have no doubt writer Louise Simonson will find a way to give each their own heroic moments.

Super Secret Crisis War #1

Super Secret Crisis War #1IDW’s big Cartoon Network crossover begins here as villains Aku, Mojo Jojo, Vilgax, and Mandark band together with an evil plan to send robot warriors to capture their enemies Samurai Jack, Ben Tennyson, Dexter, and Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttecup.

The first issue allows the various villains and heroes to each have their moments to shine (although I would have liked more Mojo) while also setting up a scenario where the various heroes’ realms are all now unprotected. The villains also accidentally send robots to several other worlds leading to the capture of Ed, Edd, and Eddy (where the story begins to falter a bit) and setting up the various other one-shots over the next six months beginning with Johnny Bravo.

Powerpuff Girls #10

Powerpuff Girls #10Things get a bit groovy in the conclusion of the two-part arc as the Boogie Man transforms Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttecup along with the Rowdyruff Boys into 70s, free love, disco-lovin’ fools. Thankfully Buttercup’s natural hatred of disco allows her to break the spell and the two groups to agree to team-up to take down the Boogie Man. Oh course that’s where the giant robots come in. That’s right, giant robots!

Realizing he stands a chance at defeat, the Boogie Man calls on Klin-Ton to save the day. Stepping up to fight on the side of the Powerpuff Girls and Rowdyruff Boys, the teen pop band 3D (who are actually an alien glam rock band) together form the Ironium Viking for a battle of giant robots pitting the power of disco versus that of rock and roll.

Whether that made any sense to you at all, Powerpuff Girls #10 is the kind of insanity you don’t want to miss. It’s even got a cameo from Mojo Jojo who is foiled yet again. Worth a look.
