As was teased in last season’s epilogue, the show’s Third Season opens up with a murder. Well, technically it opens up with two murders, of the same victim (Paul Rudd). The first takes place on stage during the Broadway premiere of Oliver‘s (Martin Short) comeback. We get some conversations among our trio about the sudden death, and an awkward afterparty turned wake, but the majority of the episode begins to fill in events between the solving of the last murder and opening night through a series of flashbacks. Oh, and then the victim shows up after being miraculously resurrected at the hospital only to be killed again that night (this time in the building). You know what that means, podcast listeners!

The final two episodes of the Second Season of Only Murders in the Building allow for Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short) to deal with their own personal discoveries while Mabel (Selena Gomez) makes the pivotal connections to solve the case connecting Detective Kreps (Michael Rapaport) to the All Is Not OK in Oklahoma podcast. While our intrepid trio initially suspect Cinda Canning (Tina Fey) of being the mastermind behind the murder in order to create a more popular podcast, for the true brains behind the crime they need to look no further than her assistant Poppy (Adina Verson) who has her own twisted tale to tell.

The blackout in the city leads to Charles (Steve Martin), Mabel (Selena Gomez), and Oliver (Martin Short) racing back to the building to save Lucy (Zoe Margaret Colletti) from the killer, but it’s really the side characters that are given the bulk of the time in “Hello, Darkness” as Howard (Michael Cyril Creighton) makes a new connection, Nina (Christine Ko) spends time with Lester (Teddy Coluca), and the podcast’s uber-fan (Daniel Oreskes) gets involved. While mostly featuring characters stumbling around, or singing, in the dark, Mabel does make a discovery concerning the identity of the glitter man after the lights come up leading one step closer to the end of the season.

Only Murders in the Building – Flipping the Pieces

Along with offering glimpses of Mabel’s (Selena Gomez) relationship with her father, “Flipping the Pieces” unexpectedly pairs the youngest podcaster with Theo Dimas (James Caverly) who takes her in after the subway stabbing. With only a single clue to go on, the pair hit Coney Island searching for the identity of glitter guy. Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short) sit down with Detective Williams (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) who is correct in assuming the pair have something to hide (and also have no idea how thin the walls of their apartments are).
