Mr. Monk and the Billionaire Mugger

Monk Monday takes us back to San Francisco and the toils of the defective detective Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub). A couple of subplots weave into the story of “Mr. Monk and the Billionaire Mugger” involving Monk struggling to pay Sharona (Bitty Schram), who ends up quitting and working in a lamp store for a brief time, and a police officer who flees the scene of the crime and becomes known as “Fraidy Cop” (Jonathan Rannells) by the local media. These two threads each cross over into the main mystery involving a billionaire philanthropist (J.C. MacKenzie) attempting to mug an ex-cop (Peter Onorati) and his date in a parking lot.

Some Buried Caesar

Throwback Thursday takes us back to another mystery with New York’s famous detective Nero Wolfe. The sixth Nero Wolfe novel is unusual in that no part of the novel takes place within the homey confines of the New York brownstone. In fact, none of it takes place within New York City. Instead we start on the road with Archie Goodwin and Wolfe on the way to an agricultural event in the rural areas of upstate New York involving the investigator’s prized orchids where a car accident leaves the pair stranded, wandering into a pasture where they are intimidated by a bull, stuck in the middle of a commotion concerning the bull’s fate, and eventually hired to solve a murder.

Charlie's Angels - Angels on Horseback

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the tale of three beautiful former police officers turned private detectives working for a faceless boss known as Charlie. Murder on a bus on the way to the Sunwest Dude Rach leads the Angels and Bosley (David Doyle) undercover as separate guests at the ranch with Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) playing up the big city girl getting over failed marriage, Sabrina (Kate Jackson) playing up her knowledge of horses as a rodeo rider, and Kris (Cheryl Ladd) who quickly abandons her role as the buttoned up accountant from Iowa. As the title of the episode suggests, it’s mainly an excuse to get the Angels in to western wear and on horseback solving a crime including the climax of Kelly and Chris racing after the killers who have taken Sabrina hostage.

Mr. Monk Goes to the Asylum

Monk Monday takes us back to San Francisco and the toils of the defective detective Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub). “Mr. Monk Goes to the Asylum” stands out for a few reasons. First, neither Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) nor Randy (Jason Gray-Stanford) appear in the episode. And second, no one brings a case to Monk who ends up stumbling over one all on his own in a psychiatric institution where he’s placed on a 48-hour hold after an incident involving Adrian attempting to cook his dead wife’s favorite dish in the apartment now occupied by another family.
