Doing a comic based on a cartoon property, especially one which is still in its relative infancy and still on the air, presents challenges. While the comic can act as supplemental material, offering more for fans of the series, you wouldn’t expect it to steal any big moments from the series itself while also attempting to keep from creating potential continuity issues for the show. Fans of the My Adventures of Superman should enjoy this one.

My Adventures with Superman - Fullmetal Scientist

While Jimmy (Ishmel Sahid) continues to struggle with running the Flamebird interns, Clark (Jack Quaid) struggles to find common ground with General Lane (Joel de la Fuente), Lois (Alice Lee) races Vicki Vale (Andromeda Dunker) to break a story, and Lex Luthor (Max Mittelman) begins working with Amanda Waller (Debra Wilson), the focus of “Fullmetal Scientist” introduces John Irons (Byron Marc Newsome) as the head scientist and face of whose CEO (Max Mittelman) puts the entire city at risk not listening to his scientists about a disturbing flaw with the new Metallo robots which could destroy a large section of Metropolis.

My Adventures with Superman - More Things in Heaven and Earth

The season premiere of My Adventures with Superman foreshadows Jimmy‘s (Ishmel Sahid) inevitable screw-up of Flamebird and sends our three intrepid reporters north to the crashed ship in the Arctic where Clark (Jack Quaid) will have a talk with his Ghost Dad (Jason Marnocha), Lois (Alice Lee) and Jimmy will run into Amanda Waller (Debra Wilson) and her goons, Lois will learn the fate of her father, and we see the creation of the Fortress of Solitude (well, sort of). When the show sticks with its primary characters and their relationships it continues to entertain, although it also struggles in terms of larger plot, villains, and giving Superman exciting things to do (other than beat up the same generic losers we saw last season).

My Adventures with Superman – Zero Day

The two-part “Zero Day” explores the reasons behind Task Force X’s bigoted and racist views on Superman (Jack Quaid) which continue in this episode as their controlled soldiers but the Man of Steel down. The major weakness of the show continues to be its villains which unfortunately is more evident when they are given more screentime. The big reveal in the episodes is apparently Kryptonians, or someone using Kryptonian technology, invaded Earth decades earlier doing rather minimal damage outside of a single government group that included Amanda Waller (Debra Wilson) and General Lane (Joel de la Fuente). Of course, the flashbacks we get don’t explain just who from Krypton might have been involved, what their goal was, or why  the short incursion simply stopped.

This version of Mxyzptlk isn’t so much the prankster seeking mischief, but a deceiver wanting to accrew great power.
