Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur - Belly of the Beast

After working through some issues over the pair getting on each other’s nerves, Lunella (Diamond White) and Casey (Libe Barer) work together to save Devil after he accidentally injects one of Moon Girl’s new experiments. “Belly of the Beast” wears the moral of the episode on its sleeve with the Innerspace-style adventure allowing for some action not caused by the pair’s bickering. In the end, talking things out and working together help heal the rift in pair’s friendship (although, notably, neither take much effort to apologize to Devil who not only has to awkwardly stay still while the girls investigate inside him but also misses out on several favorite treats.

Moon Girl - Suit Up!

“Suit Up” serves two purposes. The first is to force Lunella (Diamond White) to deal with the PTSD caused by her cosmic encounter. The second is to get our heroine a refresh on her costume as she and Mimi (Alfre Woodard) visit Mimi’s old science buddies (Jackée Harry and Ann Harada) to develop a new suit for Moon Girl. Highlights of the episode include Mimi’s friends falling for Devil Dinosaur, the over-armored costume of Lunella’s design, and Moon Girl finally learning that no amount of armor can protect her from all threats and its time to start using her brain rather than brawn.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur - The Great Beyond-er!

After jumping through the portal to save her friends and family, closing it after her, the Second Season of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur opens with Lunella (Diamond White) lost in space-time only to be saved by the Beyonder (Laurence Fishburne). Introduced halfway through the show’s First Season, this version of the comic character plays an awful lot like Mister Mxyzptlk, an overpowered creature popping in to cause havoc and chaos for our heroine. This time, the Beyonder saves Moon Girl, but rather than take her straight home he instead chooses to take her to one of his favorite worlds… which unfortunately for them has seen better days since his last visit and where his powers no longer work.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur – Check Yourself

“Check Yourself” centers around Lunella (Diamond White) obsession with needing to when which turns a potential friend in a supercomputer against her as LOS-307 (Asia Kate Dillon) overheats from constant use in the pair’s chess game that will not end eventually turning it evil sending all kinds of electric gadgets and appliances after her in the school. While I think pointing out this facet of Lunella’s personality earlier in the show, before centering an entire episode on it, would have gone a long way to better sell the premise, there’s much to enjoy here including the computer easily deducing her as Moon Girl and a conclusion that not only offers Lunella growth, and a new friend who knows her secret, but also cleverly finds a way to keep the computer around as a supporting character.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur – Run the Rink

Lunella (Diamond White) gets herself in and out of trouble after he family leaves her in charge of the rink for the night. Attempting to overcome the sheer boredom of a Tuesday night leads to unexpected complications, damage to the rink, the need of quick cash, and a plan by Casey (Libe Barer) to play on the celebrity of Moon Girl to attract customers (not realizing they will also attract villains). “Run the Rink” offers several fun bits for our heroine, both in and out of costume. My favorite gag involves the gravity-bending Gravitas (Ace Gibson) who temporarily turns the glitter-covered Devil Dinosaur into a disco ball.
