Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – ...Ye Who Enter Here

The slow moving progression to the reveal of the hidden city and Skye‘s (Chloe Bennet) reunion with her murderous father (Kyle MacLachlan) moves ever so slightly forward in “…Ye Who Enter Here.” Despite locating the location in the last episode, and racing Hydra to discover its hidden secrets, the team barely gets a couple of steps into a tunnel to the city before the closing credits. We’re also given some foreshadowing about a (possibly nefarious) secondary purpose for some of Coulson‘s (Clark Gregg) new recruits including both Mac (Henry Simmons) and Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) other than serving S.H.I.E.L.D. that unnecessarily draws your attention away from what little progress is being made to the overall season arc this week.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - A Fractured House

When HYDRA mercenaries begin publicly targeting high-profile targets under the guise of being S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Coulson (Clark Gregg) orders his various agents around the world to go to ground and sends May (Ming-Na Wen), Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki), and Hunter (Nick Blood) to prevent the next attack. The poor publicity, the need for a politician on their side, and the unique leverage they can bring to bear also causes Coulson to reach out to Senator Christian Ward (Tim DeKay) who is either kinder or most sadistic member of the Ward family depending on who you chose to believe.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - A Hen in the Wolfhouse

Stuck in a no-win situation, Raina (Ruth Negga) attempts to appeal first to Skye’s father (Kyle MacLachlan) and then to Coulson (Clark Gregg) in order to retrieve the obelisk before Daniel Whitehall (Reed Diamond) makes good on his threats. Jeopardizing Simmons‘ (Elizabeth Henstridge) undercover mission as a scientist for HYDRA, Raina hopes to force Coulson’s hand and tempt Skye (Chloe Bennet) into meeting the man she has been searching for her entire life. Luckily for Simmons, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s new director has a plan-B.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Heavy is the Head

Wrapping up the two-episode arc guest-starring Brian Patrick Wade as the Absorbing Man, Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) deals with the death of two members of his increasingly small fighting force and the capture of a third mercenary whose knowledge of the operation could bring what’s left of S.H.I.E.L.D. tumbling down. With May (Ming-Na Wen) on Creel’s tail, the team also hopes to retrieve the 084 (although they aren’t the only ones after the device).

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Shadows

Picking up a few months after the end of last season’s finale, Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team remain fugitives from the United States Government as the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. works to slowly rebuild the organization while remaining in the shadows. Since the time we’d seen them last May (Ming-Na Wen) has taken Skye (Chloe Bennet) under her wing to complete the agent’s training, Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) has left the team although the injured Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) still hallucinates conversations with her while trying desperately to communicate and complete his assignment which he could have accomplished far more easily before his brain damage.
