Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - The Dirty Half Dozen

The final episode leading up the Avengers: Age of Ultron is only peripherally connected to opening scenes of the film but it does (finally) wind down the S.H.I.E.L.D. vs. S.H.I.E.L.D. storyline (hopefully for good), and, if only for a single episode, reunites Coulson‘s (Clark Gregg) entire team for a suicide mission against HYDRA. Exchanging Fury’s box of secrets to Gonzales (Edward James Olmos) for the chance to lead his team to rescue Deathlok (J. August Richards) and cripple HYDRA’s enhanced soldier program, Coulson gathers together his former team including Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) and Skye (Chloe Bennet) who shows up to help save Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) based on the intelligence offered by Raina‘s (Ruth Negga) visions.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Melinda

Let’s get this out of the way first, “Melinda” is a great episode for actress Ming-Na Wen but not for her character Melinda May. For two years the show has teased us about the legendary status of Coulson‘s (Clark Gregg) most bad-ass agent. And, even when the writing has struggled, May has continued to be one of the best parts of the show. Not learning the lesson of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (or the famous quote from The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance), the latest episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. chooses to show us not only how May earned the nickname The Cavalry but how her career and personal life both took a nosedive after a single traumatic event.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Afterlife

The latest episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is broken into three storylines each born out of the current S.H.I.E.L.D. vs. S.H.I.E.L.D. arc. A familiar face returns to join Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Hunter‘s (Nick Blood) attempt to find Skye (Chloe Bennet) and put things right. Divided loyalties within S.H.I.E.L.D. force Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) to leave, Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) to make a hard choice, Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) to question the organization’s assessment of Skye, and Gonzales (Edward James Olmos) to find a way to kinda-sorta entice May (Ming-Na Wen) into betraying Coulson without actually betraying Coulson. And Skye struggles to get used to her new life among the Inhumans with the help of a man named Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) who keeps at least as much hidden about the group as he explains.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - One Door Closes

S.H.I.E.L.D. vs. S.H.I.E.L.D. begins here. You know, I might be more interested in this storyline if it wasn’t playing out as too spoiled teenagers arguing over the same Xbox gamertag. “You’re not S.H.I.E.L.D.! I am!” “Nuh-uh, I called it first!” Anywho, everything starts when Coulson (Clark Gregg) calls out Mac (Henry Simmons) on his betrayal before realizing Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) is actually in on it. Betraying S.H.I.E.L.D. for another version of S.H.I.E.L.D. the pair work to smuggle Fury’s special Pandora’s Box out of the compound before getting caught. When that fails Adama, I mean Gonzales (Edward James Olmos) sends in the Marines, I mean “real” S.H.I.E.L.D. for back-up.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - One of Us

While Coulson (Clark Gregg) calls in outside help to evaluate Skye (Chloe Bennet) in the wake of learning about her transformation and occasional earthquake side-effects, Cal Zebo (Kyle MacLachlan) scrubs the bottom of the barrel to enlist the help of some D-list villains (Drea de Matteo, Geo Corvera, Ric Sarabia, Jeff Daniel Phillips) to cause Coulson and his team a relatively small amount of trouble. (Seriously, with the list of all the super-powered baddies S.H.I.E.L.D. has ever come across this is the best he could do?)
