Beauty and the Beast - Bob & Carol & Vincent & Cat

While continuing to deal with the struggle of moving in together and planning their wedding, Vincent (Jay Ryan) and Catherine (Kristin Kreuk) also have to deal with the appearance of a pair of agents (Alan Van Sprang and Natasha Henstridge) from Homeland Security who show up to investigate the recent attacks that left one Federal agent dead and another in critical condition. Seeing an older version of themselves better at balancing work and home demands, Vincent and Catherine take an immediate liking to the pair who it turns out aren’t exactly who they appear to be.

Beauty and the Beast - The Beast of Wall Street

I gave up on The CW’s misguided Beauty and the Beast remake early in the show’s First Season. I simply was unable to buy into the idea of Kristin Kreuk as a New York cop or accept a version of Vincent (Jay Ryan) who is closer to a male model than anything resembling a beast. Checking in on the show’s Third Season premiere not much has changed.

2004 – Eurotrip

EurotripOn or around this date ten years ago Eurotrip opened in theaters. Although similiar in set-up to 2000’s dismal Road Trip (notable for bigger names and far less laughs), Eurotrip brought together an entirely different cast for a road trip adenture in Europe, that had far more heart while providing a quartet of likable lead characters. The result is a pleasant surprise that is often more enjoyable than you might expect.

The plot centers around four friends heading to Europe (albeit for different purposes) after high school graduation. Twins Jaime (Travis Wester) and Jenny (Michelle Trachtenberg) are on vacation together when they run into Scotty (Scott Mechlowicz) and his slacker pal Cooper (Jacob Pitts) who get jobs as couriers to make their way to Europe to repair Scotty’s relationship with his pen pal Mieke (Jessica Boehrs) which is damaged following a misunderstanding and drunken night when Scotty learns (quite publicly) that his now ex-girlfriend Fiona (Kristin Kreuk) has been cheating on him for months.

The CW’s Beauty and the Beast is based loosely, very loosely, on the late 1980’s CBS show of the same name that starred Linda Hamilton as New York Assistant District Attorney Catherine Chandler and Ron Perlman as Vincent, the noble beast whom she fell in love with. Created by Ron Koslow, the 80’s show was a fairy tale love story between a spoiled rich girl turned crusader after a vicious attack and the man who became her protector. The show was filled with some terrific costume and set design including the world of “Down Below” where Vincent lived with outcasts from above. Did I mention how little the new version mirrors the original?
