If you don’t believe a comic can move you to tears, let me offer you The Human Target #12. The final issue of The Human Target deals with the aftermath. The heart-wrenching, painful, disturbing, yet beautiful aftermath of the death of Christopher Chance. There’s no last-minute save for our hero. Christopher Chance dies. While some of comic attempts to wrap-up various JLI threads still hanging out there, the main focus is on Ice and dealing with the loss of the man she inadvertently killed and fell in love with all in twelve days.

Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1 offers several short stories of heroes dealing with the news and a world where villains are emboldened after learning the League is gone. We get Nightwing giving Superboy comfort reminding him these heroes have died before and still found a way to return before the two team-up.
