Jurassic World: Chaos Theory - Aftershock / Rest Stop

Set after the events of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, in a world when dinosaurs roam freely, we catch up with Darius (Paul-Mikél Williams) living alone and hunting the Allosaurus that killed his friend Brooklynn (who appears in flashbacks) which gets away again in the opening scene. The struggle with adapting to life in the “normal” world is the first theme of the show. The reintroduction of Ben (Sean Giambrone), fully consumed by conspiracy theories, introduces the second theme about someone targeting the Nublar Six including sending raptors after Ben and Darius.

The corpse of the Jurassic Park franchise drags itself to the finish line in what is being marketed as the final entry to the series. Let’s hope so. Only marginally better than the forgettable last entry, 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World Dominion weaves in the surviving characters of the original Jurassic Park in an attempt to blind viewers with nostalgia while failing to do anything all that interesting with them.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous - Camp Cretaceous television review

The first episode of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous introduces us to Darius Bowman (Paul-Mikél Williams) and five other teens who become the initial guests of the new Camp Cretaceous attraction in Jurassic World. The parents, willing to send their kids unsupervised to a dinosaur murder park, are nowhere to be found. Bad decisions appear to be genetic, as it takes less than a single episode for Darius to get himself and two walking cliches in the douchey rich kid (Ryan Potter) and the perky social influencer (Jenna Ortega) into serious trouble. Much of the early scenes are in awkward first-person perspective as they focus on Darius’ attempting to win a ticket to the camp by being the first to beat a video game. Thankfully the view ends once Darius wins his ticket so he can get into real trouble half a world away.

Jurassic World Has Fallen (and it can’t get up)

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom movie reviewThis franchise is officially out of ideas. Again. The latest entry in the Jurassic Park franchise is a mishmash of plot from the previous entries without much of anything original or surprising to offer. This is the film where you know what’s going to happen every step of the way including when a dinosaur is about to jump out of the water or break through a window. And the film, of course, finds a way to shoehorn the trademark T-Rex shot in an attempt to remind you of better times. If it held any of the wonder of the first Jurassic Park the script’s lack of brains might be tolerable. However, it just feels tired. And dumb. Damn, this movie is dumb.
