Harley Quinn - Til Death Do Us Part TV review

I’ve watched the first five episodes of DC Universe’s Harley Quinn and the show’s premiere “Til Death Do Us Part” is the weakest of the bunch. (Sadly, it’s also the only one to feature the character’s original costume.) “Til Death Do Us Part” Opens with Harley Quinn (Kaley Cuoco) growing tired of her sidekick role with the Joker (Alan Tudyk) but unable to break the pull the Crown Prince of Crime has on her. The show’s opener features Joker abandoning her, leaving her to rot in Arkham Asylum for a full year, and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) working to help her friend get over her puddin’.

Batman: The Animated Series - Harley & Ivy television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to Gotham City for another episode of Batman: The Animated Series. While current team-ups between Harley Quinn (Arleen Sorkin) and Poison Ivy (Diane Pershing) are common nowadays, such a pairing was anything but obvious prior to “Harley & Ivy.” After being fired by the Joker (Mark Hamill), a despondent Harley Quinn strikes out on her own deciding to rob a museum the same night as Poison Ivy decides to liberate some plant toxins from another exhibit. Together alluding the police, a friendship and partnership is born. While Harley is still mooning over the clown who treated her like dirt at the end of the episode, “Harley & Ivy” marks a step forward for the character to move beyond the Joker’s shadow (even if she doesn’t know it yet).

Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey #1

Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey #1 comic reviewHarley Quinn and the Birds of Prey #1 offers a contemplative Harley Quinn sharing her troubles to Power Girl (who immediately regrets stopping by). Not only has Harley alienated Poison Ivy after their failed island getaway, but her friends’ hotel have been torched by a loan shark forcing Harley to contemplate leaving the relative safety of Coney Island and returning to Gotham.

Packed with humor and action (including Harley making a surprise appearance at the loan shark’s offices and leaving scores of bodies on the train to Gotham), this isn’t an all-ages book, but for the right audience there is fun to be had.

Harley Quinn #70

Harley Quinn #70 comic reviewHarley Quinn #70 kicks off a new arc with a fun issue that will turn serious in its final pages. The issue catches up with Harley Quinn working as a wrestler, tag-teaming with her roommate Alicia. The concept provides several amusing panels to open the issue, joining the pair in mid-match against Rosie from Demolition Team and Crux. There’s also some nice moments of Harley at home interacting with Alicia and her daughter.

Trouble comes a calling when the promoter wants the pair to take on each other in the ring, and for Alicia to take a dive at the appropriate time allowing him to clean-up by betting heavy against the favorite. Harley takes some convincing, but despite going with the flow things don’t turn out well for Harley’s roommate.
