Green Lantern

Green Arrow #30

Green Arrow #30 comic reviewGreen Arrow‘s road trip finally leads him back to his former hard traveling companion. Needing help to get into space to check out the Ninth’s Circle secret satellite, Ollie calls on his old pal Hal Jordan. Writer Benjamin Percy certainly has fun bringing this argumentative pair back together for one more road trip.

After trading a few barbs, Ollie explains the situation and the pair set off into Green Lantern’s realm looking to destroy the evil syndicate’s satellite located on the dark side of the moon. Over the past several issues the comic has teamed-up Green Arrow with various Justice Leaguers, but this is the pairing we’ve been waiting for. And it doesn’t disappoint.

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #25

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #25 comic reviewOne step forward, ten steps back. I have to say I’m disappointed in the outcome of Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #25. While the over-sized issue itself is fine, although far from great, the build-up to a new day for the Green Lantern Corps working alongside the Sinestro Corps is wasted here returning everything to the status quo.

Great, after all that groundwork we’re thrown back into the rut that Green Lantern comics have been stuck in for the better part of decade. The idea of the unification of the two groups brought something fresh to the comic for the first time in a good long while by having the groups work together to patrol the galaxy. Sigh.

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #23

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #23 comic reviewWhen a prisoner makes a damning allegation and a startling threat against the Green Lantern Corps, John Stewart is forced to take it seriously sending Guy Gardner and his partner Arkillo into the villain’s stronghold to take down the rest of his collaborators and find this “proof” he threatens to expose if the Corps doesn’t release him.

There a two subplots here, the first involves Hal Jordan‘s concern over Tomar-Tu‘s recent troubles which will eventually be revealed to be tied into the villain’s revelations once Gardner and Arkillo find evidence of Tomar-Tu murdering a member of the Sinestro Corps. Is the fragile peace so hard-won already about the shatter?

Green Lanterns #24

Green Lanterns #24 comic reviewWhile filled with appearances by several other Green Lanterns, the focus of Green Lanterns #24 remains on Earth’s two newest ring slingers with Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz completing their training and earning full status as Green Lanterns. For Baz this means putting up with Kyle Rayner, a pretty awful thought (especially when he makes an endless supply of duplicates of himself – the horror!). For Jessica this means besting Guy Gardner which, if your name isn’t Batman, can be a challenge.

Not that there was any doubt, but both Lanterns prove themselves capable and, after a short graduation ceremony, will head back to Earth with the approval of the Green Lantern Corps.
