Arrow - Level Two television review

Like many of his previous plans, Oliver (Stephen Amell) getting thrown into Level Two of Slabside Maximum Security Prison doesn’t go exactly according to plan as he spends the episode in a battle of wills with Dr. Jarrett Parker (Jason E. Kelley) who uses a variety of methods including starvation, sound torture, drugs, and shock therapy in an attempt to break the prisoner’s will. It sounds like the good doctor hasn’t done his research about just who he’s dealing with (didn’t he watch the first six seasons of the show?). While presenting himself as someone trying to help Oliver, there’s more than a little of Dr. Hugo Strange in Dr. Parker’s methods.

Arrow – Crossing Lines

Arrow - Crossing Lines television review

“Crossing Lines” is the weakest episode of the new season as Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) gets jerked around in prison, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards, whose over-acting nearly sinks the episode) blurs lines in her hunt for Diaz (Kirk Acevedo), and Diaz makes a withdrawl from the CDC (which looks a bit like Mirakuru). More of a transitionary episode than anything else, “Crossing Lines” says farewell to Agent Watson (Sydelle Noel) while leading both Oliver and Felicity down potentially dark paths to get what they want. The episode is notable for no flash-forwards, instead we get an A.R.G.U.S. B-story involving Diggle (David Ramsey) and Lyla (Audrey Marie Anderson) lying to each other once more. Ain’t marriage grand.

Arrow - Longbow Hunters television review

While Diaz (Kirk Acevedo) has gone back to ground, his minions (assassins known as the Longbow Hunters armed with high-tech weapons) rob an A.R.G.U.S. facility of a super-battery. Not willing to leave it to A.R.G.U.S. to find Diaz, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) enlists the help of Curtis (Echo Kellum) and Rene (Rick Gonzalez) to track the missing tech. Diggle (David Ramsey) will get a closer look at Kodiak (Michael Jonsson) and Red Dart (Holly Elissa) when the assassins attack a train in search of a WMD which the battery can power. While protecting the train, Diggle will also get his shot at Diaz, although his choices only further strain a friendship. If Felicity wants helping hunting Diaz, she needs to look in a different direction.

Arrow - Inmate 4587 television review

Months after Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) turned himself in, Diaz (Kirk Acevedo) remains at large, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and William (Jack Moore) are in A.R.G.U.S. witness protection, vigilantes are outlawed, and Oliver struggles daily to keep his head down in prison and not make waves. A coordinated attack of Oliver in prison and Diaz finding Felicity and William will wake the hero out of his stupor and reignite his fire to do more than simply bide his time until his release. From the episode it looks like the show may be keeping our hero in jail for more than just an episode or two. However, that doesn’t mean the streets of Star City aren’t protested. A new Green Arrow (with his own list) has shown up to dispense some justice.

Justice League Unlimited - Double Date television review

Our Throwback Thursday post takes us back to the animated adventures of Justice League. If it wasn’t for “Clash” this would be my favorite episode of Justice League. There’s so much to enjoy here as the episode gives us pairings of the Question (Jeffrey Combs) and the Huntress (Amy Acker) along with Green Arrow (Kin Shriner) and Black Canary (Morena Baccarin). Opening with the Huntress failing a test and being kicked out of the League when she attempts to kill a Federal witness (who murdered her family years before), the episode moves into Huntress teaming up with the Question while Black Canary and Green Arrow are tasked with keeping the loathsome Mandragora (Glenn Shadix) safe from them. Written by Gail Simone, starring Amy Acker and Morena Baccarin, and featuring my favorite version of the Question, it would be nearly impossible for me not to love this episode. And the humor! Oh, my.
