G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #306

Despite his prominence on the cover, Snake Eyes doesn’t get a big role in G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #306. In fact we only get the Joe on a training course shooting some targets with an even shorter cameo from Scarlett. That’s indictive of the rest of the issue as well with jumps around quite a bit, almost like a checklist making sure to hit several plot points that may play off at a later date.

Cobra Commander #4

It’s fun seeing the various pieces introduced and connected in this Cobra prequel series for the shared Energon Universe. In Cobra Commander #4, Cobra Commander finds a scientist who has already started unlocking the vast power of Energon. Meanwhile Nemesis Enforcer takes care of any fight the Dreadnoks have left. This then leads to the expected confrontation between the Commander and Nemesis Enforcer, although there is a twist with the soldier from Cobra-La betraying the Commander rather than other way around.

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #305

The two big reveals to come out of G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #305 is that Serpentor Khan has already double-crossed Revanche and that the Zartan who  Destro and the Baroness have been talking with is not the real Zartan. The combination of the mutated Cobra faction and Revanche makes for a formidable force. The question of how the Joes would take them down seems to have answered itself with the new Serpentor’s actions taking an important step for them which will no doubt lead to the two factions turning on each other and likely their defeat.

Discovering Duke has been captured, Cobra sends Major Bludd and his soldiers into the Pit to kill him before anyone starts believing his stories of giant transforming robots. Along with the action at the end where Duke fights for his life, the comic is mostly made up of conversations between Duke and the Baroness who spends most of the issue attempting to get Duke to reevaluate who his friends are and to trust her.

Cobra Commander #2

Cobra Commander‘s search for Energon for Cobra-La leads him into swamps for an encounter with the Dreadnoks. Although we don’t get Zartan in this issue, we do get a pair of the original Dreadnoks in Buzzer and Ripper, and also a smaller cameo from Zarana. After leaving Cobra-La, the Commander doesn’t make friends with either his protector/overseer from Cobra-La (who he ditches) or the Dreadnoks (whose prized vehicle he blows up).
