In a title just ridiculous for me to get behind, this one shot from J. Michael Straczynski and Elena Casagrande offer up this adventure set during prior to the United States entering WWII in which Nick Fury accepts a job from Happy Sam to investigate why the secret supplies the U.S. have been smuggling into China to help them fight Japan are not making it into the battlefield. Helping him on his mission are a group of soldiers who will later make a name for themselves as the Howling Commandos.

Marvel Meow #1 collects Nao Fuji’s Infinity Comic digital series featuring the fluffy adorable cats from across the Marvel Universe owned by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (and a few villains) getting underfoot, and filling the pages will all kinds of cuddly cuteness. Highlights include Dr. Doom‘s solution to his loneliness taking a page from the heroes’ feline friends, Mysterio getting more than he bargained for when Spider-Man mistakes him for Carol Danvers, various heroes offering to cat sit including the Fantastic Four, Wolverine and the X-Men, and Loki turning himself into a cat to get some attention (and have a little mischief), and Dr. Octopus playing with the cats of Black Cat.

Strange Tales #89

As part of Dragon Week, Throwback Thursday turns its attention back to the first appearance of Marvel’s most awesome dragon (created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby!). Because what’s a Dragon Week without an appearance by Fin Fang Foom!? Released in July 1961, Strange Tales #89 takes place in Communist China from the perspective of Chan Liuchow, a native of the small nation the Republic of Formosa. Oppressed by the Chinese invasion of his home, Chan decides to awaken a sleeping giant (literally) and tricks him into attacking China.
