When a washed-up 80s action star turns up dead on the eve of his possible big return Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle (Nathan Fillion) investigate the actor’s world including his rumored past as a covert agent for the Spanish Government. Some investigating by Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Ryan (Seamus Dever) uncovers some odd behavior in the week leading to the victim’s murder including contacting an old source within the Spanish Government (Gonzalo Escudero), miscellaneous surveillance equipment, a secret meeting with his ex-wife (Kathleen York), and choosing to hole up in a crappy apartment under an assumed name.

Through a hidden surveillance camera the 12th Precinct can observe events on the subway car while Castle (Nathan Fillion), Beckett (Stana Katic), and Ryan (Seamus Dever) race to find answers as to what is really going on.

In the style of It’s a Wonderful Life, insomnia, fear over whether or not he’s good enough for Beckett (Stana Katic), and a concussion lead Castle (Nathan Fillion) to awake in a parallel dimension where the two have never met. To get home a disoriented Castle will have to find a mystical Inca artifact which he believes is responsible for bringing him to his new reality.

When a killer (Jared Kusnitz) begins targeting social media celebrities and using his own anonymous account to taunt the police about his crimes Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle (Nathan Fillion) are on the case. At first the evidence seems to point to a former police officer (David Marciano) of the cybercrimes division but the pair soon discover their killer is simply toying with them all the more by framing the man for the crime. Finding the link between the retired cop and killer eventually leads to his capture, but Beckett has to work fast to break the young man before two more victims are added to his list.
