The second episode of Baymax! follows the same formula of the first with the personal healthcare companion attempting to help someone who doesn’t initially want Baymax‘s (Scott Adsit) help. This time around it’s elderly Kiko Tanaka (Emily Kuroda) who Baymax attempts to help exercise to help her various ailments and get over her fear of the public pool next door. At first we get the robot’s wackier attempts proving she doesn’t need to be afraid of the water before tricking her into a bit of exercise and leading her into the pool where the truth about her doubts and fears come to the surface. As with “Cass,” Baymax is eventually able to help and leaves another patient better than the robot found them.

At first glance, Baymax (Scott Adsit) seems an odd choice of character from Big Hero 6 to spin-off into his own series. However, the attempts of the personal healthcare companion looking to provide help of a different person in need in each episode offers just the kind of premise that fits the Disney brand. In the first episode, Baymax takes it upon himself to run the cafĂ© after Cass (Maya Rudolph) sprains her ankle. Not trusting the robot to give the personal service her customers need, Cass continues to sneak back down eventually hurting her ankle even further but gaining and understanding of her limitations and appreciation of both the robot’s attempts to help and her customer’s loyalty.

Big Hero 6

  • Title: Big Hero 6

Big Hero 6Based (very) loosely on the comic of the same name, Big Hero 6 is Disney’s first animated feature film adapted from Marvel Comics. Taking quite a few liberties with the original story (including replacing the all-Asian proven group of warriors with a more diverse cast of would-be heroes), the plot involves a group of scientists in San Fransisco-ish city brought together by the genius younger brother of one of their former colleagues (Daniel Henney) who uses their combined know-how and the medical robot designed by his late brother named Baymax (Scott Adsit) to create a super-team.

Although the story is presented from the perspective of young Hiro (Ryan Potter) dealing with loss and an uncertain future, the big fluffy robot is the real star of the film providing most of the film’s big laughs. Rounding out the team are a perky chemistry wiz (Genesis Rodriguez), a high-speed adrenaline junkie (Jamie Chung), a neat-freak (Damon Wayans Jr.), and comic-book obsessed slacker (T.J. Miller) whose williness to go with Hiro’s super-hero concept helps get the others on-board.
