Pretty Little Liars - In the Eye Abides the Heart TV review

Tensions rise for all the Liars in “In the Eye Abides the Heart.” While Aria (Lucy Hale) goes to work for A.D. and fears Ezra (Ian Harding) being pulled back into his old life with Nicole (Rebecca Breeds), Spencer (Troian Bellisario) continues to try to find Mary Drake (Andrea Parker) as she also becomes the primary suspect in Archer Dunhill‘s murder. As evidence starts to mount it becomes clear Spencer may need more help than Marco (Nicholas Gonzalez) is willing to give to keep his lover and her friends out of prison.

Pretty Little Liars - Power Play television review

While one of the Liars is tempted two of the others are tormented by A.D. Finally deciding to abort her pregnancy, Alison (Sasha Pieterse) then discovers that the child inside her isn’t her egg but one that was stolen from Emily (Shay Mitchell) on her return to Rosewood. Likely to shatter the new comfort found with Paige (Lindsey Shaw), Emily is rocked by the news unsure as to what it means for her future. As for Aria (Lucy Hale), she’s offered the opportunity to avoid the game altogether by joining the other side. Although Aria tells Sydney (Chloe Bridges, in a painfully bad performance) where to stick her boss’ offer, given the recent drama with Ezra (Ian Harding) and Nicole (Rebecca Breeds) and watching her friends be put through the wringer, she’s slower to dismiss A.D. the second time around.

It seems pretty late in the game to introduce a new adversary, but that’s what nearly half of “These Boots Were Made for Stalking” is devoted to when a bitchy student named Addison (Ava Allan) turns the teachers against each other and accuses Emily (Shay Mitchell) of inappropriate conduct with the girls swim team. Events are enough to force Emily to play the game, but the entire sordid affair is dealt with in a single episode as it hardly stands up to one of A’s more sinister attacks.

Pretty Little Liars - Playtime television review

Pretty Little Liars returns for its final stretch of episodes with “Playtime” which deals mainly from the fallout of the season’s mid-season finale which puts both Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Toby (Keegan Allen) in the hospital, leaves Aria (Lucy Hale) unsure of her relationship with Ezra‘s (Ian Harding), answers some questions about the truth of Mary Drake‘s (Andrea Parker) statements concerning one of the Liars, and confirms that neither Noel Kahn‘s (Brant Daugherty) nor Jenna Marshall (Tammin Sursok) is A.D. There’s quite a bit of drama in “Playtime,” but other than setting up A.D.’s final gambit (which involves an overly elaborate game board to dish out rewards and punishment) the Liars spend the majority of the episode dealing with their own drama rather than that caused by their unknown adversary.
