The first-half of the two-part crossover brings Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) to Central City for Star Labs help in identifying an unusual weapon used in a recent killing in Starling City. Although we’ll have to wait a day for the story behind the boomerang and the official introduction of Captain Boomerang on Arrow, the latest episode of The Flash does offer a different challenge to the heroes who struggle to work together to take down a metahuman with the ability to put his victims into an uncontrollable rage.

Of all the DC characters I thought about Arrow bringing into the fold I never assumed they’d use Cupid, but the character fits in rather well. Created in 2009 as Green Arrow’s #1 obsessed fan, Carrie Cutter (Amy Gumenick) makes her way to Starling City in the latest episode of the season as a former police officer with obessessive-compulsive disorder whose affections become focused on Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) after he saves her life during a flashback to last season’s finale. Reborn as an archer with heart-shaped arrowheads, Cupid returns to town to woo her would-be lover by killing a path through the city.

Arrow - Guilty

More than any episode of Arrow in recent memory, “Guilty” struggles with a pair of stories that move forward character development but struggle to in terms of creating a compelling hour of television. Much of the problem can be laid at the feet of J.R. Ramirez as Ted “Wildcat” Grant who is simply too young to sell the premise of the city’s long-forgotten vigilante when he’s basically the same age of as every member of Team Arrow rather than a contemporary of Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) which would make a hell of a lot more sense. The storyline involving gang members murdered in a manner to point the police in Wildcat’s direction is awkward because never once are we given any reason to suspect that he could be the person responsible (and proof of his innocence).

The past comes back to haunt Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) in an episode that reveals a bit about Miss Smoak’s past and introduces the group to Felicity’s estranged mother (Charlotte Ross). Putting the show’s own spin on Brother Eye, Arrow chooses to use the concept as the brand of an unknown hacker (Nolan Gerard Funk) who has appropriated Felicity’s super-virus (which she created during her hacktavist college days) to take control of the city… and rob armored cars (you know, like super-villains do).

From the looks of things in this episode Oliver (Stephen Amell), Thea (Willa Holland), and Malcolm are going to be tiptoeing their way around the truth quite a bit this season before all secrets are eventually laid out on the table.
