Supergirl - Human for a Day

After blowing out her powers fighting Red Tornado, an occurrence the show could have done a better job explaining, Kara (Melissa Benoist) struggles with living a human life. Not only must she deal with a case of the sniffles and a broken arm but when the city is hit by an earthquake the guilt of not being able to help save National City proves to be nearly paralyzing. Of course eventually her body absorbs enough solar energy and with the added jump of adrenaline from the near-death of Superman’s black friend James “Don’t Call Me Jimmy” Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), our heroine’s powers return in the nick of time to do some good. (As to why the DEO didn’t simply bombard her with solar radiation, drastically reducing the amount of time it would have taken her to recover, is a pretty large plot point the show decides to ignore).

Arrow - Legends of Yesterday

The conclusion to the two-part The Flash/Arrow crossover, “Legends of Yesterday” picks up where “Legends of Today” left off with our heroes returned to Central City in hopes of preventing Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) from killing the latest reincarnations of Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) and Hawkman (Falk Hentschel). As both Hawkman and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) attempt to help Kendra remember the hero she once was Oliver (Stephen Amell) becomes distracted by the sighting of an old girlfriend (Anna Hopkins) and a young boy he correctly suspects may be his son.

“Since when did our lives suddenly become an Indiana Jones movie?”

The Flash - Legends of Today

After weeks of laying building blocks leading up to the mid-season premiere of the new spin-off Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash kicks things into high-gear with the first part of a Flash/Arrow crossover that brings he heroes of both cities together to fight the unstoppable force of the immortal Vandal Savage (Casper Crump). Although Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) is nowhere to be found, all other hands are on deck for a storyline that begins in Central City with Savage’s arrival searching for the reincarnated Kendra Saunders (Ciara Renée) and her Hawkman (Falk Hentschel). The plot will lead back to Starling with Barry (Grant Gustin) calling on the help of Oliver (Stephen Amell) and company to keep Saunders safe while trying to figure out exactly what the group is dealing with.

Supergirl - Red Faced

Basically re-purposing a storyline from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman “How Does She Do It?” pins down Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli) as the series’ Lex Luthor stand-in as the genius billionaire creates a series of disasters around the city to test Supergirl‘s (Melissa Benoist) abilities. Even going so far as to put himself and potentially thousands of others in danger just to test the Kryptonian hero’s abilities, it’s obvious Lord has bigger plans for both the city and it’s new hero.

Supergirl - Livewire

“Livewire” introduces one of my favorite characters created for Superman: The Animated Series as a new enemy for Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). Staying pretty true to the character’s original origin story, shock jock Leslie Morgan (Brit Morgan) is hit by a bolt of lighting traveling through Supergirl (rather than Superman as in the original animated episode) transforming the selfish prima donna into living electricity out to take revenge on those she feels have wronged her. Morgan is well-cast in the role, even if the show struggles to find a way to bring Livewire’s unique animated look to live-action.
