Stargirl – The Complete Second Season

  • Title: Stargirl – Season Two
  • wiki: link

The Second Season of Stargirl finds Courtney (Brec Bassinger) forced to attend summer school and deal with the arrival of Eclipso in Blue Valley. It will be a tumultuous season for the new JSA as Eclipso targets various members of the team forcing Yolanda (Yvette Monreal) to quit her role as Wildcat and Rick (Cameron Gellman) to end up in prison after loosing his temper.

The season offers a number of flashbacks to the original team, including (in the season’s stand-out episode) the big reveal of how the JSA were able to defeat Eclipso and the consequences from the encounter which was the beginning of the end for the group. We also see the fallout of season one on several characters and the struggle for Mike (Trae Romano) to find a role within the group.

Supergirl – Kara

After six seasons Supergirl comes to an end. “Kara” is a bit of an odd finale with three separate stories to tell. The first, taking up the first 20 minutes of the episodes, involves Kara and her friends rallying the people of and the world to help fight Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) and Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) and end their destruction in your basic big heroic speeches and action scenes the show has become known for. The middle section involves the wedding of Alex (Olivia Nikkanen) and Kelly (Azie Tesfai). And the last involves looking forward at the future of Kara post-Supergirl.

Supergirl – The Last Gauntlet

The penultimate episode of the final season of Supergirl is full of doubt, mistakes, fear, betrayal, really bad decisions and loss as Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) and Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) kidnap Esme (Mila Jones) in order to get their hands on all of the totems and recreate the AllStone. With the heroes floundering in all directions, Alex (Olivia Nikkanen) prepares to hand over the totems aware that it will likely bring about a post-apocalyptic future while Brainy (Jesse Rath) plans to super-charge Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) by stealing power from the sun and doing irreparable harm to the world. Led by fear, Kara goes along with the plan frightening the citizens and the government alike, only deciding to stop at the last possible second (which is odd, because wouldn’t that make her 99% more powerful AND done 99% of the damage?).

Stargirl – Summer School: Chapter Thirteen

Stargirl wraps up its Second Season with everyone on deck for the final battle against Eclipso and the arrival of Sylvester Pemberton (Joel McHale) to Blue Valley as the older generation shows up not to take something away from Courtney (Brec Bassinger) but to offer help at her darkest hour and stick around to show Stargirl a few tricks with the staff next season.  I’ll be interested to see McHale in the role of mentor to Stargirl, and see how Sylvester and Pat (Luke Wilson) may clash as their old hero/sidekick dynamic is replaced by something new.

Stargirl – Summer School: Chapter Twelve

The penultimate episode of Stargirl‘s sophomore season works mainly to set the stage for next week’s finale and the big showdown with Eclipso. Returned from the Shadowlands, Courtney (Brec Bassinger) reluctantly accepts the help of Cindy Burman (Meg DeLacy) while trying to put the rest of the new JSA back together. Cindy’s involvement proves to be the one thing to tempt Yolanda (Yvette Monreal) back into action. Meanwhile Mike (Trae Romano) tracks down Thunderbolt, and Pat (Luke Wilson) makes a (somewhat scary) trip to the hospital to get the other member of the team out of prison. The episode ends with the heroes reunited but with looming trouble as Eclipso eyes his new host foreshadowed by Jennie (Ysa Penarejo) vision.
