After one of the show’s must gut-wrenching episodes that saw the apparent death of Shaw (Sarah Shahi), Person of Interest continues to deliver the unexpected with “Control-Alt-Delete.” Rather than offer us an episode from the grieving Reese (Jim Caviezel), Finch (Michael Emerson), Root (Amy Acker), and Fusco (Kevin Chapman) dealing with the loss, the latest episode is entirely from Control‘s (Camryn Manheim) point-of-view giving us a look into the the Government’s use of, and frustration with, the intelligence provided by Samaritan. We also get the return of the computer system’s young avatar and glimpses of Samaritan’s plans to gain more power.

With the Stock Market crashing Reese (Jim Caviezel), Finch (Michael Emerson), Root (Amy Acker), and Fusco (Kevin Chapman) are lured into a trap by Samaritan with Shaw (Sarah Shahi) stuck on the subway dealing with a suicide bomber. Person of Interest‘s three-part Trilogy event ends “The Cold War” between The Machine and Samaritan as Decima’s artificial intelligence begins manipulating human lives on a city-wide scale, first by lowering crime and then by escalating it, in an attempt to force Finch‘s (Michael Emerson) creation to come out of hiding. Since the first discussion of the creation of a second A.I. the show has teased us with the concept of two gods going to war. That time has now begun as Samiritan’s emissary, a creepy little grade-school hacker, informs Root (Amy Acker) that Samaritan has decided to take a more pro-active stance in guarding (i.e. controlling) the local populace which includes eliminating The Machine and those who serve it.
