Finch (Michael Emerson) goes undercover as a 911 Operator to sniff out the threat to The Machine’s latest number, a training supervisor (Melissa Sagemiller) in charge of a 911 Call Center who is being blackmailed by a mysterious voice on the other side of the phone and members of a Mexican cartel holding a young child (Julian Shatkin) hostage in order to force the woman to compromise the Call Center. The woman’s tragic history involving the loss of a child gives the kidnapper, a ghost who could teach Finch a thing or two about anonymity, the perfect leverage to control the situation and get exactly what he wants.

When the latest number turns out to be an Olympic gymnast turned art thief (Elaine Tan) with an obsessed Interpol agent (Henri Lubatti) on her trail, Shaw (Sarah Shahi) prevents the robbery of the Gutenberg Bible. After doing so, however, she learns the situation is far more complicated than it initially appeared. Discovering that Kelli Lin is being blackmailed into a series of robberies by a nefarious character (Gene Farber) keeping the gymnast’s child hostage, Finch (Michael Emerson), Shaw, Fusco (Kevin Chapman), and Reese (Jim Caviezel) all decide to help her pull her next job.

In a rescue attempt that frees Finch (Michael Emerson), Shaw (Sarah Shahi), and Arthur (Saul Rubinek) from Control’s (Camryn Manheim) clutches, Root (Amy Acker) ends up taking their place and is slowly tortured for information about her access to The Machine. Jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire, Shaw and Finch head to retrieve Samartian’s hard drives from a safety deposit box only to be ambushed by both Vigilance and Hersh‘s (Boris McGiver) men. With Arthur and Finch trapped in the vault, Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Fusco (Kevin Chapman) stuck in a jail in Colorado, Vigilance’s armed band in control of the bank, and Hersh’s men surrounding the building, Shaw has to find a way to get her team out alive (by blowing shit up).

Personal journeys, isolation, the style of the 60’s and 70’s, self-destructive acts and debauchery, troubled romance, rivalries, and overcoming hardships – these were the major themes of the films that composed my list of the Top Movies of 2013. It turned out to be a strong year in movies as several films I thoroughly enjoyed failed to make this list.
